I have not given up on quilting. I am finding a wonderful balance with pottery and gardening this year as I began sewing several Projects in Progress…PIPs. I began with a window treatment project I will share later. But several weeks ago I went to a quilt retreat with a goal. Finish at least one quilt top, maybe more. I had 3 ready for borders. I managed to get all three bordered. I share this one and its story. And the quilt is very Autumnal!!

When I first opened the shop I had evening hours on Tuesday and Thursday. One Thursday evening a woman who was in town for a conference was delighted I was open late. She was from Richmond. She found a pattern in a booklet ( Mad About Plaid by Teri Christopherson. ) and I helped her gather fabrics for it. I loved the combination so much that when I cut her fabric, I also cut a set for me. What was I thinking??

I don’t even remember when I cut the pieces for the quilt, but 4 years ago when I was invited to the first retreat, this was the project I chose to work on. I got it out. I still liked the pattern and the fabrics. As I worked, I decided I wanted it to be square instead of rectangle. That takes more blocks. And luckily, I managed to cobble together the last blocks I needed. This year in March, I put the 25 blocks up on my design board and assembled the main part of the quilt. 25 years start to almost finished. I need to prep a back and send it off to be machine quilted.

In the book, it is called Corn and Beans. It is not the pattern I know as Corn and Beans. I call my version Corn Maze.

Stay tuned. I’ll post when it is completely finished. No promises. Now in to the next Pip!!! Sew a little every week. Please, take care of yourself.

Thank you all for a wonderful first Art in the Park for We are honored that you chose Rachel’s art to grace your homes and give as gifts. We are not planning for anymore ‘shows’ but we are looking into some artisan center opportunities. We will let you know here as those come into fruition.
