Snake Life Carvings

Snake Life Carvings My passion for carving snakes comes from my love and admiration for these reptiles.

I’ve personally owned and worked with snakes for over 25 years so I have intimate knowledge of the size, scale and structure of my subjects.

So ChatGTP came up with these suggestions for the base of this carving. I like 3 & 5, but I know those are going to be EXTREMELY difficult to replicate. Comment on what would you pick for the base? 🐍πŸͺ΅πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™‚️

I’m always hesitant to say β€œfinal” sanding is complete. πŸ˜‚ I usually only sand to 80 grit before starting to burn scales, but I tend to go to 120 with pine. 🐍πŸͺ΅πŸŒ²

From lumber to finished box, no stain or paint, all natural wood colors. This was such a fun build, and the perfect birthday present for my sister, Christine Mercer-Vernon Β» Artist It’s my first flower, and now that I understand how it goes together I’ll be trying some different flower types in the future (my wife has already requested a Purple Heart flower box). 🌸🌼🌻🌺

My sister had an antique art frame for a slate chalkboard that broke, it was from the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s. I made a new frame for the slate, but took the broken frame and glued all the parts back together and added some accent wood (Peruvian walnut) and made a small box out of it. That wood can now have a second life. This makes me so happy. πŸ€—πŸͺ΅
