Final Update: Police cited him for $175 and our product was returned. He was formally trespassed. We appreciate everyone in the community supporting our decision both to notify the community and contact police. Normally I try to avoid taking Police from their focus on other more important community issues but this felt like the consequences needed to match the blatant disrespect to our shop and League community.
Update: We are now getting police involved after reviewing the full camera footage and finding more items he stole and that he decided to v**e in our back stock area and bathrooms.
It's been awhile since we've had to do this and please know we take no joy in posting this, but feel it's important for the community and other business owners to know of this person.
Last night during our Pokémon League event my husband watched as this man, Ian Scott, boldly decided to take many of our mystery dice bags from their display and put them in his bag and walk back to our game hall. I pulled him aside and told him it wasn't appropriate and merchandise should be purchased before sitting down and playing or left at the front and to please bring us the dice bags. He brought us 5 bags.
At the end of the night when leaving I asked if he wanted to buy the dice bags he had set aside and he said no. I told him I needed to check his bag to ensure everything was returned and he offered it up freely, where I found an additional 2 Dice bags and multiple specialty snacks sold from our store. This was over $180 in product we recovered. I took him outside and told him he was no longer welcome in our store and was banned. We have a zero tolerance policy for thieves.
We did later receive an apology email from him , which ultimately showed he knew was he was doing was wrong. We chose to simply ban and not call police because he was not aggressive and ultimately left when asked. It's possible this was his first time. It's entirely possible it wasn't.
