Think about how much of your current life did not exist in 2020. The people you had not met yet. The decisions you had not made. The places you had not gone. The things you were terrified would never work out that eventually did. The losses you thought would hurt forever that you can now remember without breaking. You have already lived through so many endings you once could not see beyond, and somehow, life kept finding ways to begin again.
Six years is long enough for survival mechanisms to start feeling like personality traits. You become the person who always has a backup plan. The person who expects the delay. The person who does not get too excited until something is guaranteed. The person who learns how to live with less because wanting more starts to feel dangerous. And then life begins opening again, and the hardest part is realizing that you are finally allowed to meet it differently.
September is an invitation to stop measuring your future against the years that disappointed you. Let yourself make plans you are excited about. Believe the good news before searching for the catch. Apply for the thing you think is beyond you. Let new people be new people instead of making them answer for everyone who came before them. There is a point when honoring everything you survived means allowing it to become history. You have already learned what those years came to teach you. You do not have to keep repeating the lesson just to prove you remember it.
