This Jones Hope Wooten comedy is full of Southern traditions, strong opinions about food, and family memories that stick with you forever.
Favorite Family Reunion Memory:
"I don't recall many family reunions. My only memory was my Mom telling me NOT to eat any food that Ain’t Allie prepared. Mom was soooooo adamant about “brought food” and the risk of spoiled casseroles setting out in the heat……I never had chicken salad until I was married and away from home, But Papa would eat alllllll the banana pudding he could find. I love banana pudding."
Banana Pudding Recipe:
2 eggs, separated
1/2 c sugar
Pinch salt
1 T flour
2 c evaporated milk
2 t vanilla
4 bananas
Jackson vanilla wafers
3 T sugar
Cream yolks and 1/2 c sugar; add salt, flour, milk. Cook over slow heat until thickened. Add vanilla. Pour into a baking dish, layering alternately with bananas and wafers.
Beat egg whites with 3 T sugar until stiff. Cover pudding with meringue and brown in the oven.
Serves 6–8
