On The Bench! Today at CLANCY'S MUSIC
Taylor 454 CE 12 string.
This guitar came in with a seam separation down the center of the back of the guitar. You can see from the pictures that the bass side is lifting up and very uneven from the treble side. This typically happens when an instrument is sitting for a long period of time and humidity affects it unevenly causing one side to essentially warp. This can cause a noticeable gap in the seam and make the repair difficult to sit evenly. I injected some glue into the seam, clamped it, and let it sit for 3 days. I then used a miniature "finger plane" to level out the seam and make it sit evenly. I then taped off the seam and used various pressures of sandpaper starting with 400 and working our way all the way up to 4000 to create a nice seamless finish. Added a little bit of stain and finished up the sanding and got great results!

Some very interesting instruments that have come in recently for appraisal!
First is a 1933-34 Gibson L-0 in amazing condition! Everything checks out from specific era correct build techniques to consistent checking in the finish and hardware. We assigned a value of between $4800 to $6000 for this iconic piece that is museum quality!
Another very interesting piece is an original Fender Villager 12 string circa 1965-66. This is a bolt on neck with a heavy duty reinforcement bar running down the middle from neck block to end block. Note the Fender "Badge" neck plate! We assigned a value of between $2200 to $3000 for this piece. These are privately owned instruments by two different customers. We can assist with any serious offers. If you have an older interesting instrument that you would like appraised please let us know!
