Happy Friday! Hudson’s Pop-Up store in Elizabeth, IL opens today!
We finished up the space yesterday & even had some customers stop in already!

Common Cents will be open today from 11-4pm so come check out this unique shopping experience.
Don’t forget to stop in next door to see Sarah at the Yellow Creek Boutique for Women’s Clothing. We stopped by yesterday & she has the cutest outfits for Fall! ❤️

We brought some of our most popular saddles including the WINTEC 500 HB & Pro Endurance, Bates Advanta Jump, Arena All Purpose, Fabtron Gaited Western & a few others.

Reminder that our Stockton location is closed today but will be open tomorrow from 10-3pm.

Hudson’s has a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!
Starting tomorrow, Friday, October 2nd, Hudson’s will have a POP-UP store available in Elizabeth, IL at Common Cents Resale located right on Main Street!
We have spent the last few days packing up some awesome items to start this small store a little closer to our Galena & Dubuque clients.
This pop-up store will be open the same hours as Common Cents, so please check their website & FB for that info.
Shop antiques, furniture, collectibles, Christmas items, books & more in addition to items from Hudson’s. We will be refreshing this new space weekly with more items!!
Due to this new location, Hudson’s will be CLOSED on Fridays at our Stockton location.
Consignments & Repairs are still available through our Stockton location during regular business hours & Fridays ONLY in Elizabeth for drop-offs.
New hours for the Stockton store are:
Monday & Wednesday: 10am-4pm
Saturdays: 10-3pm
(UPS drop offs are Mon & Weds only at the Stockton location. 📦)

Happy Wednesday! On Monday, the newest Jump saddle from Bates Saddlery arrived & we couldn’t wait to take it for a demo!
We chose Marlie & her bestest boy, Winston, from Misty Morning Farms in Brooklyn, Wisconsin, to give this Bates APEX Jump a go!
We first introduced the Bates Apex at the Midwest Horse Fair this past April & we finally got our own demo saddle. 🎉🎉
The feedback from Marlie was awesome! She noted a roomy seat with forward flaps that keep you in perfect position. She also said she felt extra security with the balance of the saddle & the softness of the Luxe leather creating a super comfortable ride. 👍👍
Winston gave us lots of feedback, too.
He definitely gave this saddle a 10/10!
Big reach over jumps, forward & big movement in the trot & canter, easy lift & lots of power to move through the course.
Thank you to Marlie & Winston for taking this new Bates Apex Jump for a spin on their day off & giving us valuable feedback to assist our other clients. ❤️

Happy Thursday! Hudson’s has some exciting news…
We have been approved to be a dealer for DP Saddles! This has been a long time coming & we are excited to be working with this innovative line of saddles & the team from DP!
We will continue to work closely with our other quality brands, like Bates, Arena, WINTEC & Crates, but wanted to add DP Saddlery to our list, as so many customers have asked about & requested this particular line of saddles.
We will keep you updated on when our first saddles arrive! 🎊🎉🎊🎉

Happy Wednesday! Yesterday, Hudson’s was in Scales Mound, IL. working with long time client, Karmon, & her new paint QH mare, Nala!
This particular fitting hit us hard, right in the feels. Nala was at a rescue when Karmon found her a little over a month ago. She met this sweet mare, fell in love with her & brought her to her forever home with her.
Karmon has been doing all the things to build trust with this sweet mare. Taking it slow, feeding her right, building trust & getting all the right professionals out to get this girl on her feet again.
Nala has a past of working on ranches & being a brood mare. Her body & eyes tell the tale of a life of fear & abuse.
We met Nala last week for her initial fitting & this mare was terrified of us. Luckily, we had Erika of Erika’s Massage Therapy with us, and she started helping Nala relax & relieve some of her anxiety.
We managed to get through a short massage, diagnostics & initial fitting, which was a big deal! Such a brave girl, Nala!
We found Nala was terrified of any saddle, shaking & bracing when we even put a pad on & girthing was a chase. Nala let us know she had enough & we called it for the day. She is VERY hard to fit so we had to search to find more saddles that could work for her anyway.
Yesterday, we headed back out with more saddles & did find a winner, but that’s not what was important. The winner was Nala! Karmon has been working with her a lot since our last visit. Practicing with a pad, working some massage techniques that Erika had taught her, trying saddling techniques Kristina had showed her & just building that trust.
We met a different horse yesterday & are so proud of Karmon & Nala, we could go on about it for hours!
Did Nala get a saddle? Yes.
Did we get Rider Up? Nope.
What we did get was a horse that realized we were listening & that figured out it was going to be okay. No pushing. Nothing but positive reassurance & calm.
She went for a nice walk with Karmon & her new saddle & we called it a Win!
We will continue working with Karmon & Nala long after this appointment to help with this saddling issue.
There is a wonderful, sweet horse in there who is dying to show herself & Karmon is the person to free her. We cannot say how proud we are of the work these 2 have accomplished in a short time & look forward to their seeing their bright future together. Nala found her person & we are so happy to be part of her journey. Congrats, Nala & Karmon! ❤️❤️❤️

Hudson’s has started our new Billet Replacement & Reflocking service!
We just got done repairing this Barnes Jump saddle & it is going home tomorrow. Complete with a cleaning, condition & full safety check, this beauty is ready to rock & roll for our very excited & happy client.

Happy Tuesday! Teamwork makes the dream work! This is how our team came together to solve the mystery of Don Juan, the stunning Morgan boy!
Earlier this year, Don Juan’s owner gelded him & decided to sell him to a loving home. To get him back in the groove of riding life, he sent him to McKenzie of MK Horsemanship, for a refresher.
Apparently he was struggling with picking up the right lead & cantering under saddle. McKenzie got about 8 rides on him & realized he wasn’t too happy under saddle & kept running into the same problem with picking up the right lead. Plus, he was starting to get “cinchy.”
So, she contacted Hudson’s to come do a full fit for a saddle to finish his training. We did a full fit last Thursday & noticed a lot of issues that could be contributing to this. We thought we solved almost all of them and he STILL wouldn’t pick up the right lead. So, we recommended Erika from Erika’s Massage Therapy.
We went back with Erika yesterday as she worked on Don Juan to see if what we found was just saddle fit or something more. Erika worked on him for almost 2 hours & found soreness in his right shoulder and pectoral muscles in the girthing area.
McKenzie lunged him at the end of Erika’s session & guess who picks up the right lead? It’s still a work in progress, but he did it & kept it strong! McKenzie now has to work with him to keep him working it. She will be calling a Chiropractor next to make sure nothing is out of alignment, then get back to work getting him to consistently pick up that lead, finish his training & get him back to his owner.
When horses find pain in their bodies, they learn to work around it. Compensating is a way to evade pain & still do the thing.
Don Juan is built up on his left side to compensate for soreness he has felt for a long time on his right side.
We hope that he continues to feel better & goes home very soon!
Sometimes it’s a training issue, sometimes a saddle fit issue, sometimes a soreness issue, and sometimes it’s all the issues.
Don Juan is on the way to being his best self & we are so happy for him!
It does take a village & we are glad there are professionals to reach out to that can help & be a part of our village! ❤️

🏆Join us for our next clinic with our Saddle Fitter, Kristina Larkin, Equine Massage Therapist, Erika Reynolds, AND Horsemanship Trainer, McKenzie Dietzel, of MK Horsemanship!
