🎼 “Be Thou My Vision” — A Masterclass in Realism
There’s a reason this performance stops people mid-scroll. Mark Laubach — a distinguished Westminster Choir College alumnus, Eastman School of Music graduate, and previous American Guild of Organists National Competition winner — sits down at a Viscount Organ in the Chapel of Christ the King at King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, PA, and does something remarkable: he makes a digital organ disappear.
What you’re hearing isn’t a recording of a pipe organ. It’s Physis®️ technology — Viscount’s patented physical modeling system — rebuilding the sound of every single pipe from scratch, in real time, note by note, breath by breath.
Here’s what that actually means:
🔹 No samples, ever. A sampled organ plays back the same frozen snapshot every time a key is struck. Physis®️ calculates the physics — air pressure, pipe bore, mouth geometry, material, wind chest interaction — and generates the sound live, the way a real pipe organ generates sound: never twice exactly the same. Viscount. Created. Never copied.
🔹 It reacts to the player, not just the keys. Touch it twice quickly and the attack changes, just like a real pipe that hasn’t finished decaying. Add a stop and the air pressure shifts across the whole instrument, just as it would in a wind-blown pipe organ. This is Mark Laubach’s artistry meeting the instrument’s physics — a true dialogue, not playback.
🔹 Every imperfection is the point. Real pipes carry subtle, ever-changing irregularities from airflow turbulence — the tiny “aeolian” variations that give a pipe organ its warmth and life. Physis®️ doesn’t smooth these out. It recreates them, note after note, so the sound is always breathing.
🔹 It’s tri-dimensional. With true room modeling and windchest simulation, the sound doesn’t just play through speakers — it moves and resonates the way it would inside stone and wood, left to right, front to back, exactly where each pipe would physically stand.
This is what happens when a nine-figure investment in engineering meets four decades of musical mastery: an instrument that doesn’t imitate a pipe organ — it behaves like one.
Thank you Mark Laubach, for sharing your talent, and showing the world what Physis®️ was built to do. 🙏🎹
