My fall blooming witch hazel is beautiful, all frilly and smells good too. I thought this was a late winter bloomer and it was just mixed up like its owner, but it’s not. It’s very happy!

Volunteers, let me tell you about volunteers! I’m talking about flowers, not fire companies!🤣. This airy purple thing is verbena bonariensis, it’s lovely mingling with zinnias and cosmos or just showing up in cracks in the drive. Loved by butterflies and bees. Next are nasturtiums, also known as happy flowers, growing out of the cracks in my raised bed. Also edible with a mild peppery flavor, perk up your salad.
