Three weeks after hip surgery, my dad couldn't get out of his recliner without grabbing my arm, the side table, and saying a small prayer.

We tried every trick. Pillows under the cushion. A wooden board underneath. My mom standing there every single time he needed to stand. None of it worked, and he's a stubborn man who hated asking for help.

Then we rented a patient lift chair for his recovery.

First morning, he got himself up to make coffee before anyone else was awake. My mom cried. He pretended not to notice she was crying. I pretended not to notice either.

He used the rental for six weeks, then bought his own. Said the battery backup alone was worth it after a storm knocked the power out for two hours and he never once felt stuck or stranded.

That's what the right equipment actually does. It doesn't just move you up and down. It gives back the thing people don't talk about enough: the ability to do small things on your own terms.

If someone in your family is recovering from surgery or just finding it harder to get up safely, we rent and sell lift chairs right here in Stuart. Short-term rentals available, no long commitment needed.

What Good Seating and Positioning Actually Looks Like
Here's the thing nobody tells you upfront.

Good positioning means your body weight gets spread out evenly.

No single spot on your body should be taking all the pressure.

A solid setup usually includes:

Proper cushioning that redistributes pressure away from bony areas
Lateral supports to keep your trunk stable and upright
Headrests if you need extra neck and head support
Footplates positioned so your legs aren't dangling or cramped
Armrests at the right height so your shoulders aren't hiked up
If any one of these is off, your whole body compensates.

And that compensation adds up over time into real pain.

We understand how discouraging it can be to spend months pursuing a power wheelchair through Medicare, gathering documentation, following up, and still feeling no closer to a resolution. One of our patients had reached exactly that point, nearly a year into the process with another provider and nothing to show for it, before coming to us and receiving approval and a proper fitting within 30 days. That outcome is not an exception to how we work, it is the result of a team that understands Medicare and insurance requirements thoroughly, manages the documentation process on your behalf, and comes directly to your home to ensure the equipment fits your space and supports your daily needs. There is no runaround, no waiting indefinitely for answers, just the right equipment, delivered and set up with care, so that life can move forward again. We proudly serve patients, families, and caregivers navigating mobility challenges across Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, and Palm Beach counties, and we are here to help you understand what is possible with personalized guidance and dependable local service every step of the way.

We know that choosing the right lift chair for someone you love can feel overwhelming, especially when every option seems to offer something the other does not. A daughter recently shared two choices with us for her mother, and we find ourselves genuinely torn between them. One offers a full lay-flat position that could make a real difference for back pain, while the other includes a heat and massage function that, once experienced, tends to become difficult to live without. Both are covered under Medicare, and both are available right now to patients across the Treasure Coast. So we are turning to you, because sometimes the most thoughtful perspective comes from someone who has been in that same position. If it were your mother, which would you choose? Share your thoughts in the comments below, and if you would like to see the full range of lift chairs we currently have available, you are welcome to take a look here: https://mes.medicalequipmentspecialists.com/q/will-medicare-cover-your-power-wheelchair. We know that navigating Medicare for a wheelchair or hospital bed can feel overwhelming, especially when every step forward seems to reveal another obstacle waiting in the way. You make the call, you wait, you receive a denial, you file an appeal, and through all of it, no one tells you how long the process will take or whether it will ultimately go in your favor. If you are in that position right now, caring for a parent or managing your own mobility needs, please know that the difficulty you are experiencing is not a reflection of anything you are doing wrong. The system is genuinely that complicated, and you do not have to navigate it alone. What we have learned working with patients and families across the Treasure Coast and Palm Beaches is that the right documentation, submitted correctly and completely the first time, makes an enormous difference in the outcome. Most denials are not about eligibility at all. They are about paperwork. Our team knows exactly what Medicare requires for power wheelchairs, hospital beds, lift chairs, and pressure mattresses, and we walk with you through every step of the process so nothing is missed. We proudly serve patients, families, and caregivers across Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, and Palm Beach counties with personalized guidance, dependable support, and caring local service you can count on. We know that when someone you love is waiting to come home safely, the last thing you should have to face is a maze of paperwork, unanswered phone calls, and a process that no one has taken the time to explain to you. For many families across Stuart and the Treasure Coast, it is not finding the right equipment that feels overwhelming, it is navigating the Medicare approvals, the waiting, and the quiet fear that you are figuring it all out on your own. We hear this from families every week, those who spent months with another provider and saw nothing move forward, those who were never told what their coverage actually included, those who received equipment with no guidance on how to use it. At Medical Equipment Specialists, we are here so that none of that has to be your experience, handling the Medicare and insurance process, the custom fittings, and the follow-through for power wheelchairs, lift chairs, hospital beds, pressure mattresses, and travel scooters, so that you can focus on what matters most.

We proudly serve patients, families, and caregivers across Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, and Palm Beach counties with personalized, dependable support and caring local service every step of the way.

We understand that waiting months for a provider to follow through, only to end up with nothing approved, is one of the most exhausting experiences a family can face during an already difficult time. I know that figuring out how to get the right medical equipment can feel overwhelming, and it makes complete sense if you're not sure where to even begin, because there's so much to navigate and it can feel like a lot to take on alone.

The people who work in home medical equipment are truly the ones who make independent living possible, and they do it by sitting with families for as long as it takes to make sure a power wheelchair fits just right, and by working through the Medicare paperwork so their clients never have to carry that weight on their own, and by coming back after delivery to make sure everything is actually working the way it should.

A big box store leaves a box at your door, but these are the people who make sure you can get out of bed in the morning, and that difference matters more than words can really say.

If you or someone you love is looking into a hospital bed, lift chair, mobility scooter, or power wheelchair that may be covered through Medicare, we'd love to walk through it together, and we've been doing this on the Treasure Coast long enough to know how to help you feel safe and comfortable every step of the way.

I know it can feel really overwhelming trying to figure out whether a power wheelchair is the right fit for you or someone you love, and it makes complete sense to want some clarity before we take any next steps together, so we put together a simple 60-second quiz that gently takes the guesswork out of where to start, whether you're exploring this for yourself or for someone close to you, and it quietly points you in the right direction without any pressure along the way, because we want you to feel safe and comfortable every step of this journey. We take care of the entire Medicare process ourselves and we come through in about 30 days, and we also come to you for the fitting so there's no need to feel nervous about getting across town to a showroom, because we believe in making this as easy and gentle as possible for you. If you're in Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, or Palm Beach County, you're not alone in this, and we're here with you one step at a time, and whenever you feel ready and comfortable, we'd love for you to take the quiz here: https://mes.medicalequipmentspecialists.com/q/will-medicare-cover-your-power-wheelchair
