Three weeks after hip surgery, my dad couldn't get out of his recliner without grabbing my arm, the side table, and saying a small prayer.
We tried every trick. Pillows under the cushion. A wooden board underneath. My mom standing there every single time he needed to stand. None of it worked, and he's a stubborn man who hated asking for help.
Then we rented a patient lift chair for his recovery.
First morning, he got himself up to make coffee before anyone else was awake. My mom cried. He pretended not to notice she was crying. I pretended not to notice either.
He used the rental for six weeks, then bought his own. Said the battery backup alone was worth it after a storm knocked the power out for two hours and he never once felt stuck or stranded.
That's what the right equipment actually does. It doesn't just move you up and down. It gives back the thing people don't talk about enough: the ability to do small things on your own terms.
If someone in your family is recovering from surgery or just finding it harder to get up safely, we rent and sell lift chairs right here in Stuart. Short-term rentals available, no long commitment needed.
