Echoes with the sounds…of salesmen...

Corporate sponsorship of concert venues isn't exactly new. Back in the day, legendary rooms like Maple Leaf Gardens or the Hammersmith Odeon carried a sense of place, history or geographic swagger. Today, the Fifty Something Tour feels like reading through a trade journal for a massive corporate conglomerate.

The names have gone from classic civic landmarks to bizarre brand callouts that sound stranger by the year. Though it’s not on the current Tour, Jiffy L**e Live in Bristow, Virginia always raised a smile when Rush played there.

Tonight, Little Caesars Arena in Detroit is on the menu. Little Caesars, founded in 1959, is a global fast-food chain famous for its budget-friendly, carryout "Hot-N-Ready" pizzas. Red Bruschetta anyone? SORRY! 🤪

In Canada, there’s the mysterious empire of Rogers. Who is this chap Roger, anyway? He’s managed to secure a Place in Edmonton (that clearly everyone knows about) and an entire Arena in Vancouver.

Across the pond, in Berlin, Rush lands at the Uber Arena, evoking the rather terrifying image of an entire stadium summoned via an app, possibly idling at the curb while emitting a vague scent of pine air freshener.

The list rolls on through banks, global airlines, telecom giants, durable workwear and tech brands.

But perhaps the most magnificent irony of all occurs in Manchester, England where Rush play Co-op Live in March next year - we can’t bloody wait!!! The whole modern Co-op movement started back in 1844 when 28 working-class textile workers in Rochdale - the Rochdale Society of Equitable Pioneers - pooled their money to sell honest, affordable (remember that term) food and share the profits fairly. Jump ahead to today and those humble 19th-century Lancashire roots are attached to a massive, state-of-the-art mega-arena where thousands of thirsty fans will queue up to pay an eye watering £9.50 for a pint of Japanese lager that’s brewed in Rome! By 'eck, I’m not sure what the founders of the Co-op would make of that!

Anyway, have a wonderful time at Little Caesars tonight where you're guaranteed to have magnificent slice of Rush with ALL the toppings! 🍕

Gonna bring up this topic again since it seems to be a persistent problem.
PLEK Machines!
I read this morning that one of the biggest advocate/ Luthiers of Plek machines from the AU is walking away from using them. Going back to doing fretwork by hand. Hmm. ..
Now, he very eloquently dances around the reasoning and still holds the machine in high regard, but still selling his machine. Why? Because they still can't perform the hardest part of a fret level/refret. The DRESSING!
Pleks cause MORE work in the end, and most of that work is neglected by guitar companies. But they figured out a cheat. Steel wool.
Go buy a new $5k Gibson or Martin, Even. You won't find the shiny polished frets you would expect to find after spending absurd amounts of cash. Nope. Dull, grey and tarnished frets are what you'll get.
The Plek has a cutter head, like a CNC machine. It machines the frets level and crowns them, but doesn't polish. The outcome greatly depends on how worn the cutting head is, and if a human actually polishes out all of the "chew" marks. Trying to polish out most examples of Plek chewing is near impossible.
Also, the machine doesn't really care how much fret material is left. If the guitar isn't setup properly before it enters the machine, well....garbage in-garbage out. The result is a guitar that doesn't have enough fret material left for a future fret dress. And you are paying extra for this!

Stripping this stupidly pretty Les Paul Supreme down so I can install a new EMG 57/66 system.
Doing a bit of finish correction to remove a few scratches, and a fret polish before moving on.

I try to avoid a lot of in-depth Electronic repair these days because guitars keep me so busy, but I have worked on these SVT Pro's before. Makes crackling noises while on for the first few minutes. Good thing we got to it before this got any worse.
Vibration and hot/cold cycles kill electronics. So what happens to the electronics continually sitting on top of a Bass cab that's making your pant legs flap?
