INGREDIENTS - SLIDERS
- 12 pretzel slider buns
- 5 bratwurst links
- B**r, for simmering the brats
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 8-10 oz Wisconsin B**r Cheddar, thinly sliced or freshly shredded
- Stone ground mustard
- Sauerkraut, well-drained (optional)
- Pickled jalapenos (optional)
INGREDIENTS - BUTTER TOPPING
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp dried parsley
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Cook the brats. Place the bratwurst in a skillet and add enough b**r to partially cover. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 12-15 minutes. Drain off the b**r, then brown the brats in the skillet until nicely colored. Let rest briefly, then slice into 1/4-inch rounds.
2. Caramelize the onions. Add the butter and sliced onion to the skillet. Cook over medium-low heat for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft, golden, and caramelized.
3. Preheat oven to 375 F.
4. Slice the pretzel slider buns horizontally and arrange the bottoms in a lightly greased 9x13-inch baking dish or on a sheet pan.
5. Spread the buns with stone ground mustard.
6. Layer with sliced bratwurst, caramelized onions, and well-drained sauerkraut and pickled jalapenos, if using. Top generously with Wisconsin B**r Cheddar, and place the pretzel bun tops over the cheese.
7. Combine melted butter, garlic powder, onion powder, and parsley. Brush over the bun tops.
8. Cover loosely with foil and bake for about 10 minutes. Remove the foil and bake another 5-7 minutes, until the Wisconsin B**r Cheddar is melted and the pretzel buns are warm and lightly toasted.
9. Cut into individual sliders and serve hot.
