🎶📚 A Little Lady Day, Anyone? 🎶

Our vinyl collection is growing at Athina Books, and today we’re featuring one of the greats: Billie Holiday. 🎤🎵

We have a live recording of Billie Holiday on vinyl, along with a special vintage book about her life and music. There’s something pretty wonderful about discovering the music and the story side by side. 📖💿

And Billie is just the beginning! Our growing vinyl collection includes a selection of jazz, rock, and classical music, with more arriving all the time.

🇺🇸📜 Happy Constitution Day!

For many of us, the opening words of the Constitution bring back a familiar tune: 🎶 “We the People…” 🎶 Thanks to Schoolhouse Rock, generations of Americans can probably still sing at least part of the Preamble! https://youtu.be/ptYkcBPYC6s?si=k6kC5OUf9kxEvZHB&t=14

But those words are more than a catchy song. They invite us to reflect on the enduring questions at the heart of our constitutional democracy: What does it mean to form “a more perfect Union”? How have we pursued the ideals of justice, liberty, and the general welfare—and how do we continue that work?

Athina Books owner Katina Fontes will be facilitating two upcoming events with Lincoln’s IDEA Committee as part of this year’s Constitution Day programming:

📖 Wednesday, September 16 at 7:00 p.m.: The 2nd Annual Constitution Day Community Read-Aloud, where community members will take turns reading the U.S. Constitution.

🎨 Tuesday, September 22 at 7:00 p.m.: Art & Conversation: Creating a More Perfect Union, an opportunity to explore the Constitution, our history, and our hopes for the future through creativity and conversation.

Both events will be held at the Lincoln School and are open to the community. (More information is available at https://www.lincolntown.org/1221/IDEA

So today, perhaps take a moment to revisit those famous words:

“We the People…”

And maybe hum a few bars of Schoolhouse Rock while you’re at it. 🎶📜🇺🇸

Remembering September 11

Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001, and the lives forever changed by the events of that day.

We remember the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives, the families and friends who mourned them, and the first responders and ordinary people who showed extraordinary courage in the face of unimaginable circumstances.

Twenty-five years later, the memories of that day remain with us. May we continue to remember not only the tragedy, but also the compassion, courage, and sense of community that emerged in its aftermath.

May we remember. May we reflect. May we strive for a more peaceful world.

📚 A Little Bookkeeping Pause 📚

We have been incredibly fortunate to have so many wonderful books come through the doors of Athina Books, and, quite honestly, we’re a little overwhelmed! ❤️

For the time being, we’re going to pause our acceptance of books for store credit while we catch up on cataloging and processing our backlog. We want to give the books already here the time and attention they deserve before bringing in more.

There are a few exceptions for titles we are currently seeking, which you’ll find noted on our website. We’re still accepting those titles in limited quantities (one small bag or box at a time).

Thank you so much for your patience, understanding, and for continuing to bring your books to us. We’re looking forward to getting caught up and welcoming more of your books back soon! 📖💙

🎶📚 Vinyl is coming to Athina Books! 🎶

We’re excited to announce that vinyl records are making their way onto our shelves!

We’ve even set up a small record player so you can test out the records before you buy. 🎵

Our selection is limited for now, mainly children’s story recordings. But this is just the beginning! Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll be bringing in more traditional vinyl, including jazz, rock, world music, and more.

So keep an eye on the shelves. There may soon be something spinning that catches your ear! 🎶💿

📖 Sunday, September 27 | Noon–5:00 p.m.

Several local authors will be at Athina Books each day with their books available for purchase and signing. Come meet the authors, discover new stories, and support our local literary community!

And on Sunday at 11:00 a.m., join us for a special panel discussion on the writing and publishing process, an inside look at the creative journey of developing an idea, crafting a story, and bringing it to life.
