I have been waiting until the last test to come back after the biopsy to make a post. I have thyroid cancer. It’s a really weird rare cystic cancer and so it took two years of being forceful with the VA to take it seriously because I knew the lump was cancer. The first biopsy they did last year the dr was like “ look I don’t even know why we are doing this it’s just a cyst on the thyroid those are never cancer and I’ll drain it you will feel better and I send the liquid off but if they find anything they will need to put you in the New England journal of medicine.” I took comfort in his arrogance after all he is a professional. They called back a week later they had found some atypical cells a sign of cancer but assured me it’s nothing it’s just a cyst. But because the doctor doing biopsy only drained the cyst there wasn’t enough material for a Genetic test to confirm they are cancer. So because it was cyst which are never cancerous so the atypical cells couldn’t possibly be cancer she wanted me to wait a year and so i did at the appointment she actually had forgotten that they had found those cells and was surprised I wanted another biopsy but scheduled one to make me feel better. Same dr met me the day of the procedure and basically apologized in a round about way for acting the way he did and said he had just never heard of cancer in a cyst on the thyroid and thought I was complaining because it was cosmetic. So this time he took it seriously and saw the calcification which is a sign of cancer too and his mood really changed. Biopsy results came back and saw a new endocrinologist who was absolutely sure I didn’t have cancer and that they once again found those atypical cells and read the notes but it’s a cyst and she was sure it was nothing but we would wait for the genetic testing. I got the results today. I have cancer. I knew it and I had to advocate for my self hard to prove it. Now before anyone says it’s just thyroid cancer remember I said this was weird and rare it’s 5x more likely to spread based on type and location mine is on the isthmus which is in between the two lobes so I will have surgery to remove the whole thyroid and we will see if it spread
