Well friends, we are only 4 weeks away from the first Sunday of Advent and you know what that means! It means that thousands and thousands of families all over my motherland are prepping the year’s most creative and long-living gift: the Adventskalendar (advent calendar)!
All over Germany moms and dads and aunts and grandparents and friends are busy making special collections of 24 gifts that are to be openned consecutively from December 1st right on through December 24th - Christmas Eve! Children and grownups alike anticipate waking every morning to open tiny parcels, envelopes, hidden doors, miniature baggies or cloth sacks to reveal charming collections of chocolates, trinkets, notes, gifts and treats. As a child our advent calendar was made of match boxes lovingly covered in colorful fabric and glued to a backdrop of Chrtistmasy cheer. Every day my brothers and I would take turns sliding out the tiny compartment of the matchbox adorned with little golden numbers and hidden inside were rare treats of homemade candies, strips of gum or even a miniature doll!
So it is with great joy that we once again offer our own special Advent Seed Calendar made with 24 varieties of seeds collected from our own flower farm. This is the perfect Christmas gift for your flower loving friend or family member or for yourself!

I was told that if I planted a fuyu persimmon tree I would have to wait 10 years to enjoy its fruit. Undeterred I planted one and waited in hope.
One year later I got this. A single golden nugget.
Let me tell you - hope never tasted so sweet 😍

Alright, my flowery friends!! Here are the details on the sublime Zelmira……
This gorgeous lily is a cross between an Oriental lily and a trumpet Lily. This gives her the combination of height, scent and massive blooms that make her so special.

She grows 3-5’ tall, likes to be planted in clusters in partial shade and is a hardy perennial - which means you plant her once and have blooms for years to come!

The stunners retail for $10-$12 per bulb when bought individually - yikes. Not that anyone here would ever pay such a horrendous amount for a single bulb….(ahem….*hangs head in shame). 😂

Plus shipping costs - sorry we can’t do farm pick up this fall so all bulbs will be shipped.

At long last - summer heat has given way to cooler temps and we turn our attention to fall projects and beauty. 🌺
We have a very special surprise offering for you this fall. But first I must make a confession - It’s quite a serious confession. Might be pathological, now that I think of it….
I’m a compulsive stalker. It’s true, ask my children. I will stalk a Tweedia for weeks, creeping up behind her, checking out her fading blooms and watching her for pests as much as seed formation. I’ve run into ditches admiring a blooming field of wildflowers and been pulled over by the County Sheriff for speeding because I was staring at a neighbor’s flower patch.
It’s dysfunctional, I know. But it’s inescapable. I’ve always done this. My first repentant tears were shed at the age of 1 1/2 when I was found with fistfuls of my mother’s giant (and very much forbidden) petunias.
So this fall I bring you the opportunity to share in one of my happiest stalking outcomes. You see for months now I’ve been in search of one particular spectacular lily bulb. Her name is Zelmira and she has the most perfect peachy apricot color - absolutely perfect addition to our farm flowers of blues, lavenders, pinks and whites! I’ve scoured endless internet pages, vendors and bulb sellers - nothing. I finally found one Dutch wholesaler who had exactly ONE crate of these magical blooms left in stock!
So naturally I will be sharing these beauties with our loving farm community.

We’ve had so many lovely encounters here with people from all over the county, many who’ve made the trip from Richmond, Suffolk and beyond and visitors who are passing though on their travels.
On the morning of our last open nursery day this season a lovely lady pulled up right at 10AM as we were opening up. I was designing bouquets for a friend whose baby is in hospital. Hands full of blooms, I stepped out to greet the newcomer. I learned she and her son were finishing up a 6000 mile road trip and our farm was their last stop before they head home - “my highlight” she called us. She had come for fresh flowers.
My daughter offered her coffee and chatted with her while I finished her flowers and we learned of her life and her son and possible changes that may shift her from her current home to a new location in the near future. She paused, looked around her and commented on the beauty, the quality of life, the heart of what makes our little corner of earth so special .
“I like it here” she said, “maybe we’ll meet again someday”. I hope so.
It’s the encounters with each of you that makes this place. And that’s worth returning to.

🥕 We have veg! 🥕
And we’d love to share it. Come to the farm today between 10-1 and put together your own produce basket - choose from golden beets, red skin and baking potatoes, fresh garlic and carrots. All just harvested and grown with zero chemicals or additives.
And of course we’ll have fresh flower bouquets, warm scones with coffee, and lots of perennials.

Like every year, we close for the summer - the heat zaps our energy and the flowers have given their best this spring. This is the last weekend we will open the farm for nursery sales and the flower cart with fresh bouquets. Then we take our summer break.
