Crazy power outage in the Ville right now. People are jumping off buildings, people can’t charge their cars, and the mom-and-pop stores are shut down. Luckily, the buildings aren’t that far off the ground, so nobody’s getting seriously injured. We’ve realized we don’t have to drive anywhere, so it’s no big deal to not charge our cars. Generators are going off like crazy so that people can continue to have lights on in the middle of the day. When you don’t have to work because none of your equipment functions, you find yourself craving ice cream. Of course, you can only go to the big stores—the huge stores like Safeway, Groce Out, IGA—and they’ve got minimal power. You have to wait in line to get to the ice cream aisle, while a second line, a few miles down the road, is filled with people waiting for alcohol. It’s crazy times over here.

Nonetheless, the stoplights, programmed to blink red every three seconds, are running on battery power, and traffic seems to flow more smoothly than usual. We’re even able to drive faster, though to where, there’s no end in sight. Now, because of the storm, all the people who solely depend on the grid for warmth are turning to their secondary heating sources—the abundance of trees already split and prepared for fires in our yards. Crazy, crazy, crazy times.
