MEET YOUR GUIDE!

MORGAN KANE | LEAD GUIDE

Morgan Kane has been with Pyramid Fly Co. since the early days, and at this point, we’re fairly certain he speaks fluent Lahontan Cutthroat.

There aren’t many people who have spent more time studying the moods, movements, feeding patterns, weather tantrums, and general weirdness of Pyramid Lake’s fish than Morgan. He’s exceptionally fishy, and we mean that as the highest possible compliment. When conditions change, Morgan adjusts. When the fish move, Morgan finds them. And when everyone else is scratching their heads wondering what happened, Morgan has usually already figured it out.

That knowledge doesn’t stop at Pyramid. In the offseason he guides the Truckee River, fishes throughout the West, and possesses an almost unreasonable ability to hunt carp with a fly rod. Trout, cutthroat, carp, rivers, lakes, technical water, ugly weather... Morgan simply understands fish.

His assistant guide and quality-control supervisor is Larry, a French Bulldog with extremely strong opinions regarding Morgan’s performance. Larry provides encouragement primarily through excessive judgment, suspicious staring, and barking at fish. Standards remain high.

Behind the jokes is one of the most experienced and well-rounded guides we know. Morgan is patient, observant, relentlessly dialed-in, and a true professional on the water.

If there’s a fish somewhere in Pyramid Lake thinking it has everything figured out, Morgan Kane would like a word.

MEET YOUR GUIDE!

BROCK WILSON | JUNIOR GUIDE

Now entering his third season with Pyramid Fly Co., Brock Wilson Brock Wilson has officially earned his place on the team. The “Junior Guide” title might suggest he’s still learning the ropes, but Brock has proven he knows considerably more than the average bear when it comes to finding and catching Pyramid Lake’s Lahontan Cutthroat Trout.

The kid can hammer hogs.

More importantly, Brock brings an absolutely ridiculous amount of enthusiasm to the water. He loves fishing, loves Pyramid, loves putting clients on big fish, and approaches every day like there’s a 20-pounder swimming around out there with his name on it.

Brock also pulls double duty in Alaska, spending part of his year chasing beasts in rivers far to the north. Between Alaska and Pyramid, he’s developed into a seriously well-rounded angler who is equally comfortable targeting trout in moving water or figuring out the puzzle of a giant stillwater.

Unlike Morgan and Cole, Brock does not bring a dog to the team.

He does, however, occasionally appear to be holding full conversations with someone named Steve.

We have never met Steve.

We’re not entirely certain Steve exists.

But Brock seems to value his input, and if Steve keeps helping Brock put clients on giant cutthroat, Pyramid Fly Co. will continue to recognize him as an unofficial member of the guide staff. We may even get him a hat.

Brock is energetic, hardworking, fishy as hell, and getting better every season. He’s earned his spot, and we’re excited to see just how far he takes it.

Brock Wilson: Junior Guide. Professional hog hunter. Alaska-tested. Steve-approved.

MEET YOUR GUIDE!!

COLE HILDAHL | SENIOR GUIDE

Cole Hildahl has been on fish since he was a wee minion, and somewhere along the way he apparently decided specializing in just one outdoor pursuit was for amateurs.

Despite being relatively young in years, Cole has accumulated more fish and hunting knowledge than most people could hope to gather in a lifetime. He is a bona fide expert on Pyramid Lake’s Lahontan Cutthroat Trout, with an almost irritating ability to understand where they are, what they’re doing, and what they’ll eat. And his stillwater game extends well beyond Pyramid. Put Cole on a trout lake anywhere in the West and there’s a pretty good chance he’s going to figure it out before everyone else.

But fly fishing is only part of the Colebert résumé.

During the summer months, Cole heads north to Alaska, where he guides for Dillinger River Outfitters, chasing moose, grizzly and caribou. Back home, he’s an accomplished Western big-game hunter himself, including taking the third-largest bighorn sheep in Nevada last season. Apparently catching enormous trout wasn't enough.

Then there are the birds. Cole can work upland country like a pro, and when fall turns toward waterfowl season, he enjoys a little bird bowling... or, as normal people call it, duck hunting.

Naturally, every highly capable outdoorsman requires an equally capable associate.

Enter River, quite possibly the world’s most disciplined Mini Dachshund. River has been known to retrieve turkeys, ducks and chukar, despite being approximately eight inches off the ground and engineered more closely to resemble a bratwurst than a bird dog. River does not care about your preconceived notions regarding appropriate working-dog dimensions.

Cole is the real deal: guide, hunter, outdoorsman, and an absolute encyclopedia of fish behavior. If you spend a day with Hilly, pay attention. There’s a very good chance you’ll leave Pyramid knowing considerably more than when you arrived.

Just don’t ask him what River knows. That information is classified.

During my off season I like to take it easy and do a little bit of guiding, and a bit of enjoying the summer. I’m generally guiding the Truckee with Truckee CA Fly Fishing School & Outfitter and all my summer guide buddies and really enjoy the change of pace on the river.

Our Pyramid season is a long one, so our “off season” flies by during the summer months. As avid outdoorsman Cole Hildahl spends a good chunk of his summer up in Alaska guiding folks into some of the largest animals that roam the tundra. Cole has a passion for the outdoors. If he’s not out fishing, he is out hunting. Cole works with @. In the most remote parts of Alaska.
