I bought the 9800 for an M1a Super Match and quickly found out the foam wasnt up to the job. When stood on end overnight, the r***e's weight had compressed the foam beneath it and created a 2 inch gap at the top of the case. I ordered the closed cell replacement from Cobra Foam and a week after installing it there is no compression below the r***e and no gap the top. I feel much more confident that the case will protect my r***e on the plane and in the car.

I am very happy with the foam insert for my Apache 3800 case. It holds my handguns and magazines so that I can just grab them an head to the range. I appreciate how tight they are held and how well they are protected. I was nervous that the pick & pull foam would look bad if I tried it myself, so I was thrilled to find a ready-made piece that slides right into the case and holds more than I thought was possible. Delivery was quick, so thanks for that. The insert was used to replace the original after making mods to items secured in it, causing me to need a new foam insert. The original that came with the case was fine but I think this one is better and seems more secure in keeping things in place. I wanted to make better cuts on this one and thought about getting a hot knife but hate to buy things for one-time use so used a regular retractable razor blade with a fresh/sharp blade, kids chalk to outline (wiped right off afterward), and a metal ruler as a guide. Came out great. Good purchase.

My handgun collection was collecting dings on the shelves in my gun safe. I picked up an Apache 3800 case and ordered the closed-cell foam 6-gun insert set from Cobra. It arrived promptly. I removed the old open-cell foam and installed the new. I placed a sheet of VCI paper on top of the lowest piece of foam so that the vapors would rise through the slots. Then I popped in several of my favorite pistols. Five full-size service automatics fit fine. I thought the sixth one was a bit of a tight squeeze, so I took it out and replaced it with a vintage pocket auto which was much thinner. Perfect! Before closing the case I added another sheet of VCI paper on top of the pistols, which should be well-protected until I replace the VCI in 6 months. I was so happy with this first case that I immediately ordered another set of inserts. The case and inserts cost about $100. This is good value because the degree of protection exceeds that of alterrnatives like gun socks. I will be interested to see how the next one does with revolvers, which are wider than most automatics.
