Welcome to our 5th edition of Throwback Thursday! Each week we’ll try to highlight one of our available items that are vintage, antique or just old and weird, maybe with a little history thrown in.
Some of us of a “certain age” may remember when our parents stopped at a “full service” station for a fill up when gas was about .30 a gallon?! 😳 We may not have paid much attention, but our Mom or Gran may have been more interested in completing their Fine China set than the gas. Gas station & grocery store China giveaways were prolific, and some makers made dinnerware specifically for them. Major stations rewarded customers with a piece of china or a teacup, often for free or very cheap with every fill up, like in this Blakely ad. By returning weekly drivers could build complete, matching dining sets.
During the 1960s, Creative Fine China produced dinnerware pattern #2345 Regency Rose, primarily for gas station and supermarket promotional giveaways.
Today’s Throwback Thursday is our amazing set of Regency Rose offered by certain Chevron stations. It looks like it was treasured and never used. No chips, cracks, crazing, or utensil marks. It has beautiful English Garden roses with a gold border.
