The MetaLetta
Hey there MetaNerds! This is Melody again bringing you the hottest news about MetaNerds and where we are with operations. Sorry for the long absence without posting the MetaLetta! We have hit a few snags with the company that I have been trying to address before posting a newsletter, as I was waiting to have some real news to report.
In this weeks MetaLetta I will be covering what we have been up to for a month, what our endeavors have led to, and what we are planning to do next. Additionally, I would like make a few shoutouts to some of our devoted donors. So let's activate this lightsaber!
What have we been up to?
Funding, funding, funding! We have been scouring the multiverse trying to find ways to fund the opening of the store. Unforturnely, though, we have run into some pretty large setbacks. We were pushing hard to open the company within 3 months, but that was when we thought that we could get a business loan to cover opening expenses. Opening a business is obviously not cheap, and one must have money to make money in most scenarios. In this particular scenario, we need exactly $275,000. Unfortunately, though, we do not have deep pockets, and we do not come from wealthy stock. What this means for us, is that our credit scores are just a little too low to get what is called "unsecured funding," which is a term that here means, a loan without the need for collateral.
Because our scores are low, and we don't own anything worth putting up for collateral, the business loans have proven to be a wasted venture. However, the work I have been doing all month is not all for nothing. This past month I have been focusing on putting together a clear and cohesive strategy to secure funds in other ways. Because of this, I had to make extra-sure that my financial projections are accurate and on-point, and that my business plan looks like a sparkling gem in a pile of stones. In doing the work to get ready to pitch our company to potential investors, I have come to understand a lot more about the banking and funding world, and I am happy to report that there is still much hope for us, yet!
What does this mean for now?
At the moment, due to our credit situation and the lack of collateral, I have been looking into companies that specialize in connecting people exactly like us with people called "angel investors." Angel Investors are people who have a lot of money, and typically tons of entrepreneural experience, and they specifically seek out startup companies and invest in them with the intent to help them get up and running without all of the red tape and restrictions of typical big entity loans. Think of them as big brothers who have opened a few companies before and they just want to see you succeed too. They know startup companies are a high risk venture and they are in it for the long-haul.
Angel investors are a wonderful thing when you can find one that is interested in your company, but getting their attention is not a walk in the park, and they are about as common as actual footage of Bigfoot (which I may or may not have in my possession -_-). Because of this, I will be resorting to subscribing to companies that connect businesses with investors. This means that I will be going back to working a regular job, just like all of you whom we aim to serve, so that I can provide the monthly fees to hopefully land an investor while simultaneously working to build my personal credit up the last 30 points that we need to look more attractive to lenders and big banks.
Okay, so what's next?
Our very next plans include, yet again, Melody working a regular job, but also we are going to be developing and shooting a promotional commercial that we are going to be putting up on our YouTube channel, and other social media platforms, to help people connect with us on a more personal level, and not just as a business entity. This will hopefully help put some of the questions from people who have decided not to donate to rest, and present a clear message of who we are, our mission, and exactly how serious we are about our dream.
Furthermore, we are going to finally start up a Kickstarter account where we will be posting all of our most sympathy-seeking beggery in order to see if maybe all of the nerds of America can help us reach our funding goal as well. Between the donations that have been helping us DRAMATICALLY in keeping the website operating and paying for marketing and advertisement, the grant writer that we have on board, the investors we are looking to impress, and the potential of crowdfunding, the odds are still very good that we can open the store in a matter of less than 6 months. That is a lot longer than we hoped, and we are hoping there are no more delays beyond that, but the dream is still very much alive!!! I look forward to sending out more content as things progress, only our focus is going to shift to more entertainment driven content until we have more news to share. Stay nerdy friends! Also, is anybody hiring? xD
A message to our donors!
I would like to give a personal shoutout to all of our donors so far who continue to believe in us! Your contributions are not in vain! So far, we have used all proceeds to fund operations of the company by means of paying for website upkeep and fees, paying for Facebook marketing, Google marketing, and paying for gas money for us to go to and from business meetings and to go around passing out our flyers that you may have seen all over town.
Every contribution that you make helps us look more appealing to lenders and investors, as they see people who are already willing to support the company and will turn into life-long regular customers when we open our doors. YOU'RE DONATIONS ARE INVALUABLE! Please, keep up the good fight with us and I promise your donations will pay off in the end. I can't promise how they will pay off exactly, but I will personally see to it that all of our top donors will be rewarded in some kind of a way. For now though, I would like to list a few (first only) names of donors to let you all know that we appreciate your contributions! Current top donors are as follows:
-Eric
-Danielle
-Alex
-Tanner
-Jaime
-Cody
-Seth
-Chelsea
-And the other Alex
Thank you all again so very much for your donations, we look forward to the day that we can thank all of you properly at our Grand Opening someday in the near future. Keep those donations coming and we will keep using them to open the store!
