Hello all-
It has come to our attention that someone has been spreading some misinformation about our store and staff. Unfortunately, as a radical bookstore this was bound to happen.
A week or 2 ago, a member of the community came in and took offense to our Palestine display, and has since publicly stated that a member of our staff verbally assaulted her when she asked about it.
I would like to be clear that when the member of our staff was confronted by this individual, she handled herself with poise and made sure to clarify all of the store’s stances in a calm and professional manner. I trust my employees implicitly and have no reason to believe that the accusations of verbal assault are accurate.
We apologize if our stance has made any members of the community feel uncomfortable but we refuse to be silent about injustices in this world, and we will not apologize for supporting Palestine, and for opposing colonization and genocide anywhere in the world. That being said, we would also like to clarify that our support of Palestine should not be interpreted as anti-Semitic or anti-Jewish in any way.
We also refuse to be silent about misinformation about our stances or actions. Instead, we hope we can help build empathy and understanding in the community. Thank you. - Alex, Owner (CGB)
EDIT: Everyone has had the day to post their thoughts so I turned off comments.
Lastly, this display has been in our store for almost 3 years, and we have also posted about it on social media on multiple occasions and have a recommended reading list on Israel/Palestine. So, as stated before, we apologize if this makes anyone uncomfortable but it is pretty clear that those taking issue are not regular patrons of our store.
