TALLAHASSEE FOLKS! I’ve got a GRAND OPENING THIS FRIDAY NIGHT at Strained Memory and I’d love to see ya there!
We’ve put a ton of work into this space and it’s time for me to hope y’all enjoy it.
There’ll be new products, a keg of delicious root beer supplied by Amicus Brewing Ventures , and some other things I’m trying to put together in the anxiety of it all.

Playing House is a collaborative exhibition between Ysabel Flores + Alexia Benavent-Rivera. This exhibition visualizes the collision of their two worlds by deconstructing childhood memories of home and family. Drawing from their individual cultural backgrounds, they explore the common threads that connect them to one another. Alexia Benavent-Rivera pulls from her Latin American heritage and experience living in Puerto Rico, while Ysabel Flores is a second-generation Filipino-American decoding her experience in the diaspora. Through domestic spaces, everyday objects, and shared rituals, Playing House explores how relationships and memories shape our understanding of home by highlighting distorted perceptions of reality and celebrating what makes us all unique. Amidst the current political climate, it is more important than ever to remember that we are all interconnected. This media-fluid installation invites viewers to acknowledge the shared experiences that connect us across cultures and generations as well as explore nostalgia through an environment of play/curiosity - the experiences that shape us.
