The bookstore may be temporarily closed while we relocate, but our rescue work at Feline Advocates of Leon County (FALC) doesn’t take a break! Kitties still need food, medical care, and daily support during this transition!

If you’ve been wondering how to keep supporting the cats while our doors are temporarily closed, we have the purrfect way to jump in: Become an Advocat!
By joining The Advocates, FALC’s monthly donor program, you provide predictable, life saving support for our rescue cats every single month… AND get some awesome perks along the way!

Every contribution, big or small, helps keep our kitties happy, healthy, and cared for! Your donations also allow us to continue our lifesaving efforts and intake new cats in need!

Swipe to see a breakdown of the fabulous perks offered by FALC when you donate as little as $5 per month!

🐾 New Bookstore Update!! 🐾

This past weekend has been a whirlwind of excitement, nostalgia, and optimism about the future! With the help of our amazing team of volunteers (have we mentioned how amazing our volunteers are?!) we moved everything out of our Railroad Square location and into our new location at 292 N Magnolia Drive!

For now, our new home looks like a giant pile of bookcases, books, boutique items, and various cat supplies - but soon it will have the familiar feel of Fat Cat Books: Aisles of bookshelves filled with wonderfully used books, a beautiful boutique bustling with local art and lovely trinkets, and adorable kitties lounging around intently watching for their perfect forever human!

Floor painting has begun, doors have been hung, and all the kitties are cozily tucked away in the one room, finished just for them, with warm beds, full food bowls, toys, cat trees, and a large window overlooking Magnolia Drive! Be sure to wave whenever you pass by😻

Stay tuned for more updates including our reopening date announcement!! We can’t wait for you to see our beautiful new home!

What’s better than one kitty?! TWO kitties!!

Meet Trixie and Mabie, two of the cats that Feline Advocates of Leon County helped rescue from Dominica! The girls have been through the unimaginable together and, after all of their long travels to safety, are rarely seen apart.

Trixie, three-years-old, is the more social and outgoing of the two. Always up for some love, but never too far from keeping a watchful eye over Mabie.

Mabie, two-years-old, while more on the shy side, is very sweet and gentle. She looks to Trixie to observe how to trust humans, and Trixie always ensures that Mabie is never too uncomfortable.

These two sweet peas are available for adoption as a bonded pair! Please let us know if you’re interested in learning more about Trixie and Mabie, and if you’d like to adopt them!

As a reminder, just because we are temporarily closed, all of our kitties are still available for adoption!

Today marks our final day in Railroad Square. As we prepare to pack up the final items from our store, load the kitties up in carriers, and do one final walk-through, we can’t help but reflect on all of the memories that 615 Railroad Square Unit 5 holds and all of the growth that we have experienced within these walls over the past six years.

What started as a dream to further Feline Advocates of Leon County’s mission by providing a safe space for adult and senior kitties to live while waiting for their forever homes, quickly turned into a community where we have met some of the most amazing people!

One of those people, our director, Gisele, came into our lives when she adopted 14-year-old QT who had been brought in after his beloved previous owner passed away. QT was surrendered alongside his sister, Miss Kitty, who sadly was our first bookstore, hospice patient, but also reinforced the crucial need for a space like the bookstore to exist.

Another memorable moment was the celebration of Finn’s first birthday! For our newer followers, Finn was a special boy found outdoors with severe neurological complications. He wasn’t expected to survive very long, so when he made his first birthday we had to do it big! Finn wound up being adopted by our rescue’s incredible president and went on to live several more delightful years!

We have enjoyed every first Friday, every book reading, every poetry night, every employee, and every volunteer who has helped keep books on the shelves and food in our kitty’s bellies. And of course, we have loved endlessly every cat that has entered the store and have grown and learned from each one of them - from our very first resident, Missy, who moved in even before we were open for business, to our most recent intakes, who traveled all the way from Dominica.

We are forever thankful to everyone who made this bookstore into something we could’ve never dreamed of. We are so proud to have grown up in Railroad Square among its eclectic and unique community that is so important to Tallahassee’s culture. Thank you, Railroad Square for being our birthplace and helping us grow! Because of you, we are able to move onto this next chapter and continue saving the lives of all kitties, regardless of their age 🧡

Stay tuned, Tallahassee, for the opening date of our new location at 292 N Magnolia Drive - we’ll see you there!

✨ New Bookstore Update!! ✨

Well, it’s official. Our crew of volunteers is the best crew of volunteers ever!

The big news this week is paint!! Over the weekend, our awesome team primed AND painted all of the walls, started work on our amazing new litter area, cleaned up some of the exterior space - all while having a blast jamming out to 80’s music!
