Fish of the Week: X-Ray Tetra ✨🐟

This week at Royal Union Pets, we’re featuring the X-Ray Tetra (Pristella maxillaris) — a peaceful, active schooling fish known for its unique translucent body and striking fin coloration.

X-Ray Tetras are a great choice for community aquariums because they’re hardy, beginner-friendly, and look especially impressive when kept in groups. Their calm temperament and lively movement make them a great addition to planted tanks and mixed freshwater setups.

🌊🐠 Incoming Saltwater Stock This Week at Royal Union Pets! 🐠🌊

We have a great saltwater shipment coming in this week with a mix of fish, clean-up crew, inverts, and corals!

This week’s arrivals include Pearly Jawfish, Bicolor Blennies, Target Mandarins, Harlequin Bass, Firefish, tangs, wrasses, cleaner shrimp, sand stars, urchins, snails, hermits, torch corals, frogspawn, and more.

At Royal Union Pets, all incoming saltwater fish are dipped upon arrival and placed into our fish systems that actively run copper as a preventative treatment. Copper can help reduce the risk of common external parasites such as marine ich and velvet, giving fish a stronger start before going home. Inverts and corals are kept in separate copper-free systems.

If you’ve been looking to add something new to your reef tank or marine setup, this is a great week to stop in and take a look.

Saltwater Spotlight: Lamarck’s Angelfish 🐠🌊

This week’s saltwater spotlight at Royal Union Pets is the beautiful Lamarck’s Angelfish — Genicanthus lamarck.

Unlike many angelfish that can be risky around corals, Genicanthus angelfish are 100% Reef Safe and widely considered the best Angelfish option for reefs. Lamarck’s Angelfish are open-water swimmers with a peaceful temperament, elegant black-and-silver striping, and a graceful lyretail that makes them stand out in a reef aquarium.

Another cool feature of the Genicanthus genus is the difference between males and females. Males often develop bolder markings and more pronounced tail extensions, while females usually have a softer, more subtle look. Both are beautiful, active, and excellent choices for the right saltwater setup.

Best for established reef tanks and peaceful community marine aquariums with plenty of swimming space.
