I unfortunately don’t have a lot of vibrant orange stones in my shop to use for my cobblestone inlays, but needed something to really pop in this mermaid pendant’s hair.

I don’t know what made me grab a jar of opals I was gifted from a friend and there was a piece of fire open stuck in the matrix. I spent some time excavating it to get a pretty nice-sized but awkwardly shaped opal out of it.

It blended in with the hair too much to just have it solid, but the small bit of howlite stone backing brought out that vibrant color I was looking for!

Piggybacking off my last post (a lovely 10k gold wedding ring featuring Florida’s state stone), I wanted to share a recent piece I wrote highlighting one of my all time favorite materials for using in jewelry designs: agatized coral.

If one of your first dates with your partner is in a Florida river looking for agatized coral, you know your wedding ring needs to have some of that in it too!

My client and I worked together to make her a dainty little ring featuring a Florida agatized coral mosaic in the center with two little orange coral side stones set in 10k gold—finished just in time for their wedding on July 4th 🇺🇸💒

When her brother met me to pick it up, he almost didn’t believe the coral blooms was done by nature! That’s a big reason why fossilized coral is up there with one of my favorite stones to cut 🪸

I’ve been taking a nice social media posting sabbatical so I have neglected to share the guests who came to film in my studio a few months back! And I have to say, it was amusing having like 10 people stuffed in my studio 😂

The folks from Hillsborough County came to do a highlight of my lapidary jewelry, how I got into inlay, and how important funding the arts is starting at the youth level. I’ll always cherish my high school art teachers Judy Oliveri and Dana Warner for nurturing my talents and encouraging me to pursue the arts as a career. I wouldn’t be on this path without their guidance! ❤️

If you have a flat lap, you can turn that into a stone intarsia machine to make intarsias like this custom turquoise checkerboard made for a client’s wedding ring!

In my 2-day virtual class with Pocosin, I’ll go over how to make a simple tool for whatever flat lap you or your lapidary club may have whether vertical, horizontal or angle lap. Then I’ll go over how to make simple intarsias, checkerboards, and radial intarsias!

Class is Aug. 5 & 12, but don’t worry if you can’t make it at the actual times as you’ll have access to the recordings for 60 days after plus I’ll have a FB group set up for extra questions as well.

(And if you’re wondering how this is different form the inlay, this more or less focuses on geometric designs with flat connections between the stones).

One of my repair clients gifted me this cool inlay bracelet for me to do whatever I want with! Natural stones (from first look), sterling, an a stretchy steel in the back.

The stretchy aspect is cool in theory but kinda catches your skin which is a tad ouchy.

What would you do with it? Rejuvenate it with new stones or scrap it for the metal? Or something else? 🧐 Stones are definitely being saved though!

I’d you see my studio this clean, that’s when you know I have important company coming over 😂

This morning I had the folks from Hillsborough County and the Arts Council of Hillsborough County to film for an upcoming piece for their Art813 series! I can’t wait to be a part of it!

But it was funny expecting 3 people to be in my studio. Imagine my shock when I had 7 people crammed in my studio 🤣 it was an awesome experience and I can’t wait to share the finished video once it’s done 🧡

And of course I had to wear my Head in the Clouds earrings during the interview. Will be making a few to add to my site too! ☁️🌤️☁️
