It’s hard to believe that 25 years have passed since the tragedies of 9/11, a day frozen in time for so many who lost loved ones, friends, and neighbors. Even those of us who were far away watched in horror and sadness as the planes hit the twin towers, then the pentagon, and finally the heroic actions of the passengers aboard flight 93. But what we also saw was the strength and unity that brought an entire country full of people from different walks of life together. We saw it as strangers guided each other down so many flights of stairs and out of the towers. We saw it when first responders ran into the chaos in New York and at the Pentagon just because they knew help was needed. We saw it when the passengers aboard flight 93 said “let’s roll”, saving countless lives. And finally we saw it in the American flags proudly displayed in yards and on buildings across our country, signaling our unity and unwillingness to let the terrorists win. 25 years later we remember every moment of that day: the innocent lives lost, sacrifices made to save others, and the resilience we showed the world in the aftermath. We will never forget. 💔🇺🇸

hazel + dot started as an idea for what I thought would be a fun little side biz… and exactly 11 years ago, in September of 2015 I launched my website with four product lines and a handful of bracelets and necklaces that my mom and I made at my parents’ kitchen counter.

I don’t usually celebrate this milestone since we opened the store a quick and very unexpected 5 months later (the official store birthday we celebrate every year)… but hearing this Dolly Parton quote recently I decided that we should be celebrating all the times we put ourselves in the game, no matter how scary that game might be. I remember I told my dad I was thinking about starting a business but I was feeling apprehensive about it, and he gave me some equally sage advice: “What’s the worst that can happen- you fail? Big deal!”.

For a teeny tiny person Dolly sure was chock full of incredible life lessons, what a gift she was to all of us! Be like Dolly: do the thing, get in that game! What’s the worst that can happen?! ❤️
