Each piece begins as an ordinary paper towel, saturated with bronze metal clay, shaped by hand, and fired at high temperature until the original material burns away - leaving behind a solid bronze.

These brooches were created from natural sea sponges. Each form is preserved by saturating the organic structure in a bronze metal clay slip.
As wearable objects, these brooches exist between adornment and artifact, carrying traces of their original organic form.

Preserved Structures _ Metal Brooch_ My work explores transformation through a series of brooches created from natural sea sponges. Each form is preserved by saturating the organic structure in a bronze metal clay slip containing finely atomized bronze particles and firing it at high temperatures, translating a soft, porous material into rigid metal.
