Today, November 19, marks a quiet milestone—five years since I poured my very first candle. I still remember how amazed I was by those smooth tops… and how quickly I learned that not every candle turns out quite so perfect. But that moment sparked something beautiful, and I’ve been pouring memory and meaning into wax ever since.

As I reflect on this journey, I also want to share that I’ll be stepping away from candle-making for a little while due to health reasons. I’m scheduled for foot surgery soon and will need time to rest and stay off my feet.

This pause feels bittersweet, but I’m hopeful to return at the start of the new year—with fresh energy, new scents, and a few exciting products I can’t wait to share.

Thank you for walking this journey with me—your encouragement over the years has meant more than I can say.

Here’s to healing, dreaming, and the next chapter. —Peggy

A Little Hello from Tawas Bay Candle Co

I’ve never shared much about myself here, but today feels like the right moment. My name is Peggy Burton, and I’m the heart behind Tawas Bay Candle Co. I pour each candle by hand in Tawas City, Michigan—blending scent, memory, and a little poetry into every jar.

I spent the last week of August in Tennessee with my daughter, and it felt so good to step away from business, from the cares of the world, and simply breathe. A quiet retreat from my hectic schedule—a chance to explore something new.

Nashville was unforgettable. 🎶 We toured the Ryman Theater and spent an unforgettable evening at the Grand Ole Opry—moments I’ll carry with me.

I couldn’t resist slipping into a few candle boutiques while we were there, and of course, I came home with a couple of new scents: Smokey Pine & Orange and Tennessee Whiskey. Both were warm, bold, and beautifully layered. I might just have to try my hand at replicating them—there’s something about southern spice and smoky woods that lingers.

The week flew by far too fast, and I’m already dreaming of a return visit. St. Lucia is on the horizon—possibly March of 2026—and I’m looking forward to that adventure. But for now, it’s back to the old grindstone, pouring candles with care and intention. It’s my passion, and it feels good to be home.

If you’ve discovered a scent on your travels that stayed with you, I’d love to hear about it. And if you’re local to Michigan, I’m always pouring something new—stop by or drop a note.
