Poppin' & Mixin'

Poppin' & Mixin' Popcorn Pioneers! https://linktr.ee/poppinandmixin We've been in the mobile concessions business for several years. your family!

We are Poppin' & Mixin', a cool and unique popcorn company out of Taylor, MI that is revolutionizing the popcorn industry! We have a unique "mix-in" concept that sets us apart, we offer guests the option to create popcorn trail mixes in a made-to-order setting! We also offer cotton candy, fudge, soft serve, slushies; and even more "mix-in" recipes like our cotton candy burrito and popcorn sundaes!

We started by building our own homemade popping kettles in our garage in Taylor. We then started popping up tents at local fairs/festivals around Metro Detroit. In just a few years, our popcorn products and brand allowed us to quickly become one of Metro Detroit's premier concession vendors. In 2019, we opened the Poppin' & Mixin' Kettle Corn Truck to further mobilize our business and meet our customer demands, and have been operating at the Detroit Zoo since. We opened our first brick-and-mortar popcorn shop in Taylor, MI in April 2022. We are open 5 days a week and feel our products are a real treat to all the communities around us. We are family-owned and use all local suppliers. Our seed comes from a Michigan farm in Hemlock, MI. Our company is instilled with rich family roots. And no snack goes better together with family than popcorn. Think about when you eat popcorn, who are you with? It's always the special people in your life; your friends, your loved ones. That's what popcorn does, it brings families together! We wanted to instill that culture in our business, so when we started, we used that "bringing families together" philosophy, and that's how we created the "mix-in" concept and our slogan "Bringing Deliciousness Together." We also are heavily involved in the community. We donate proceeds to local charities, work with the Taylor Little League (National Champs!) and the Taylor School District. If the plan doesn’t work, change the plan, but never the goal!

We will never forget all the memories. All the laughter, jokes, craziness, and love will never be forgotten. We were flooded with emotions when we drove by today to see it like this. You all contributed to the lasting legacy we left behind there. Even though the building is gone and we will never see it again, we can still hold onto to all fond memories of what was once our 2nd home.

If you haven’t heard, our building is set to be demolished this Spring for a new gas station. With the inter-workings of shady business deals and bureaucracies behind our backs that we had no control over, we were put in the cross-hairs of something we didn’t seek or ask for. We were forced to settle an agreement that meant we need to move out by 2/28. There’s a lot here, and although we can’t be purvy of the exact details, we can say that we’ve decided to Stand up and Fight!

We don’t know what the outcome of this fight will bring, but we’ve chosen a path that is in our business and family’s best interests. We’ve done too much and sacrificed too much to let large companies, business people, and municipalities control the fate of our business and our emotional well-being.

We will keep you all posted as we move along.

When we started our business 8 years ago, we had no idea what it had in store for us. All the ups and downs, the successes and failures, the laughs and cries, the opportunities and roadblocks, the memories and forgetfulness, and the excitements and disappointments. It’s been an incredible journey and learning opportunity for our family, and we wouldn’t trade it for the world.

But, learning everything we’ve learned, and reflecting on these last 8 years, has really given us the perspective to assess our current business situation and what’s sustainable vs. what just isn’t.

Our business has been thriving in the background for the last 15 months with our wholesale side, so we shifted our focus there. Some folks noticed our truck isn’t at the Detroit Zoo this year. Others asked why we hadn’t done the events we used to do. Others just think we closed down.

The truth is, with the cost of inflation, attendance at events drastically decreasing since Covid, and the frugal spending habits we’ve noticed from patrons:

it just doesn’t make sense for us to continue the operation of The Poppin’ & Mixin’ Kettle Corn Truck.

After all the blood, sweat, and tears we’ve poured into our truck, it’s a decision that didn’t come easy, and it hurts us to the core! However, we feel this is the best decision for our business considering where we currently are and what the near future is showing.

However, this doesn’t mean our kettle corn is gone forever. We are still in business 100% and there’s still an opportunity for you to get your hands on it. Just contact us whenever you have a craving!!

We’d like to thank all our customers over the years for telling us how amazing our popcorn is. Who’s come to events to tell us we are the only reason they come. All the smiles and excitement we’ve been able to provide. Those are memories that we will never forget and are what makes everything we’ve endured, worth it. We’d like to thank the Detroit Zoo and all the festivals, fairs, and committees who gave us the opportunities. We’d like to thank our family and friends who dedicated so much to help. We’d like to thank our staff and all past employees who contributed and were always there to provide assistance and support.

We will be doing our last “farewell” event at the Detroit Tree Lighting Ceremony at Campus Martius TONIGHT!!!. We would love it if you all could stop by and bid the truck a pleasant farewell.
