The Family Justice Center would like to share one of our most precious and meaningful donations to date.

This came from an 8 year old young man who wanted these items to go to another child in need. The shoes and plushie were among his most treasured childhood belongings. Additionally, he recently earned $2 doing chores and donated HALF his earnings!

To our anonymous young donor: thank you for your incredible generosity. Your donation will bring comfort and joy to another child when they need it most. The world is a brighter place because of hearts like yours, and your compassion will leave a lasting impression on lives you will never even meet.

Every donation to the Family Justice Center helps us provide hope, support, and care to individuals and families in our community. Thank you for being a part of that mission. đź’ś

The Claiborne County Family Justice Center stands with our community in honoring Mayor Joe Brooks.

Our office will close at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday and remain closed on Friday as we join the county in paying our respects. We will reopen on Monday, August 3rd at 8:30 a.m.

If you are experiencing a domestic violence emergency, please call 911. If you need advocacy services during this time, a CHET Family Services Center advocate is available through the 24-hour crisis line at 423-562-8325.

We appreciate your understanding as our community mourns together during this difficult time.

Survivors of human trafficking carry extraordinary strength—and their resilience must not be overlooked. This Red Sand Week, we honor their courage while recommitting ourselves to prevention and protection. Their voices guide us; our responsibility is to listen, uplift, and respond. In Tennessee, awareness sparks action—and action changes lives.

Thank you to our guest speakers at Friday's CCR Team Meeting. ❤

The depth of this loss is immense. Joe was a champion for the Family Justice Center and a fierce advocate for every citizen of Claiborne County. There are no words to express how much he'll be missed here, because he was not just our mayor, he was our friend.

Domestic violence, sexual assault, and substance use often intersect in ways that are complex, and frequently misunderstood.

For some survivors, substance use may become a way to cope with overwhelming trauma symptoms, including anxiety, depression, intrusive memories, chronic pain, disrupted sleep, or feeling constantly on alert. Substance use may offer temporary relief, but it can also create additional health and safety concerns and make it harder for survivors to access help.

Substance use can also be part of the abuse itself. An abusive partner may:

-Pressure or force a survivor to use substances
-Control, steal, or withhold prescribed medications
-Sabotage treatment or recovery efforts
-Use a survivor’s substance use to threaten, shame, or discredit them
-Prevent them from seeking medical care or support
-Threaten to report them to law enforcement, child welfare, an employer, or family members
-Intentionally keep them dependent or impaired as a way to maintain control

It's important to recognize that safety, trauma, and recovery are connected. A trauma-informed response meets survivors where they are, respects their choices, reduces shame, supports harm reduction and recovery, and coordinates care without creating additional barriers.

Healing is not one-size-fits-all, but compassionate, survivor-centered support can make recovery and safety possible.
