Thomas S. of Ardmore, OK, had just arrived home from his job at the Dollar General Ardmore Distribution Center when shortly thereafter his father alerted him to call 911 as the house was on fire. While the family made it out safely, the home was a total loss. Thomas applied for and received funds from the Employee Assistance Foundation to aid in rebuilding after the loss.

When disasters devastate communities, DG and its employees are there to help, and working to provide support for those who need it most. During Disaster Preparedness Month and year-round, in addition to its Employee Assistance Foundation, DG partners with organizations like American Red Cross and World Central Kitchen to help make a difference.

In the wake of Hurricane Francine’s landfall, DG announced a partnership with World Central Kitchen, which will bring the DG-supported Rapid Response Field Kitchen to communities needing nourishing meals after natural disasters.

Currently stationed at a civic center in Houma, LA, we’re supporting our neighbors during this critical time to help feed and support the community, helping to recover from Francine.

“A struggling, single mom, my daughter was shopping with her three small children using the last of her money until payday. The kids were a bit of a handful, but the employee never got upset or made my daughter feel bad, even distracting the kids with a toy. She quickly rang up about $100 in items and my daughter told her to put the rest back because that was all the money she had. She could see I was visibly upset and turned into a compassionate, understanding and very accommodating lady.
