We have received BREAKING NEWS that the most MESMERIZING plant of the year—and quite possibly the most fascinating plant we’ve ever grown—IS BLOOMING.😱

That’s right.

THE LITHOPS HAVE BLOOMED. 🥳

Also known as Living Stones, these bizarre little succulents have spent the season looking remarkably like… rocks in soil. 🤭

Lithops are fascinating succulents made up of a pair of thick, stone-like leaves—and when they bloom, a daisy-like flower emerges right from the fissure between the leaves. Most Lithops bloom in late summer or autumn, and here’s the really wild part: their flowers open during the afternoon, typically between 12–4 PM. ⏰

That’s because Lithops flowers respond to light and warmth, opening in the afternoon to take advantage of the conditions that help attract their pollinators—then closing back up later in the day. 🤯 And on cloudy days, the flowers usually don’t open at all ☁️ .

Interestingly enough, the flowers can be surprisingly large compared to the tiny plants, and are white or yellow, depending on the species of Lithops.
