Most of the time, everyone who visits our little farm stand are great people and very appreciative, often leaving more than they owe because they don't have exact change and don't use Venmo. Occasionally, there are those who leave things a mess or open sealed jars, not knowing that they are ruining the product as it quickly molds and often isn't noticed until someone else takes it home and we get that awkward message about it. No big deal, we refund their money without a fuss, and life goes on.
But what happened today is too much and inexcusable. We have a small jewelery display that is all hand-made beaded items made by my 82 year old mother-in-law that passed away in December. We have only been asking $5 per necklace, bracelet, or pair of earrings even though the beads used cost much more than that and the time she took taking them.
Today, someone took a bunch of those items and then threw the display into a bucket of cucumbers that we were giving away for free as we have more than we can use. Not concerned with the loss, it's just the disrespect and disregard for others that is so hard to swallow. We work ridiculously hard on our little hobby farm to keep up with the demand of the stand, even though we have regular full time jobs. We often have things get taken without being paid for, and we chalk it up to someone needing the food, not someone taking advantage of us by keeping the stand self-serve and without security cameras. I still believe there are way more good people out there that come by, but the more it happens, the harder it is to continue to believe that is true....
Praying for you all and trying to keep a positive outlook. Thank you for your time.
