Can you help us?

Do we have any students in the community who need to get some statistics for a school project, either high school or college? We are looking for somebody to come in and track how many people come into the store over the course of a week, a month, maybe even a few months. Some usable, trackable data. You know, demographics about how many people come into the store in an hour; are they shopping, donating, or both; general age ranges; and the number of unhoused who come in. We want to present this data to the city council about the importance of our store and what it means to the community.

To everyone who has supported Bountiful Blessings Giving Closet,

Thank you for your continued support, encouragement, and guidance over the last 15 months of us being open and serving the community. Every day we are open, we experience the best of The Dalles as both donors come into the store with their generosity and kindness on full display, and the community members coming in knowing that they will not be judged or turned away.

Now, on to the favor. We are hoping that you would be so kind to send us letters of support for our store. Not as an endorsement, but just stating how our store has helped your clients, students, customers, and YOU. We are working in the background to grow and expand, and to have the support of our community would mean the world to us. It will also go a long way to prove that BBGC is an asset to our community and our residents. We are planning on talking to City Council about the importance of the store, and these letters would be instrumental in our assertion that expanding our store will only benefit our city even more.

These letters and notes can be dropped off at our store, emailed to us at [email protected], or mailed to us at 308 Washington St, The Dalles, OR 97058. If you don't wish to have your name associated, please feel free to leave that anonymous.

With sincerest appreciation and gratitude,
BBGC Volunteers & Board

Due to an unfortunate stomach bug going around, we will be closed today. We will be open regular hours this weekend. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but appreciate your understanding that these are volunteers that work here, and our hours are based on their availability.

Thank you.

I know where I was in 9/11/2001. I was laying down with my 14 month old daughter, content with morning snuggles, when my husband and grandmother called me from the living room. Leaving my bed with her in my arms, I went to join them. It was before 7:30am in the morning, news coverage showing smoke billowing from the North Tower in New York City. My grandmother was sitting on the sofa, tears streaming down her face as we watched in horror as the North tower collapsed. My husband said the US had been attacked, hijackers using our own airlines to attack NYC and DC.

I remember the fear when the news started reporting over the following days that potential terrorist attacks could start happening around the country, at major power suppliers, like dams and power grids, and large US cities like LA, Dallas, Miami. I remember being scared to go anywhere other than my parents' house, being afraid for Mike going to work, even though his job was nothing to be concerned about.

But more than the fear, the way that the citizens of our nation banded together sticks out in my mind.

Garth Brooks recorded The Change after the Oklahoma City bombing, but watching the video, you could have easily thought this was about 9/11. Listening to the lyrics is like an anthem for how to save our country from destroying itself from the inside out.

"This heart still believes
That love and mercy still exist
While all the hatreds rage
And so many say
"That love is all but pointless,
In madness such as this
"It's like trying to stop a fire
With the moisture from a kiss"

And I hear them saying,
"You'll never change things
And no matter what you do
It's still the same thing"
But it's not the world that I am changing
I do this so, this world will know
That it will not change me."

It's Lynn's most favorite time of the year! The almost autumnal time of year, when things start to cool down. You can feel the shift in the air, being in the in-between time, from the go-go-go of summer to the gathering of the year's blessings.

If you haven't been to the store lately, please stop on by and say hi! We love seeing y'all, and please feel free to ask us questions about donations, future events, volunteering, and more!

You have forced our hand. Due to missing items that were intended to be listed for sale or auction, we are now going to have cameras and the cases will be locked only for certain members to have keys. We hate to think that somebody is volunteering solely for the purpose of using the store as their personal jackpot. We do have some volunteers who have suffered a great loss due to the recent fires. We are understanding of their situation, and we welcome them to shop. But for people to be taking items that are not for free, or allowing their friends and other customers to go back into volunteer-only areas, that stops immediately.

We have rules in our volunteer agreements and handbooks that are going to be fully enforced. If volunteers do not like those rules, they are will not be allowed to volunteer. Yes, we are a giving closet, but we always state that items in the cases and behind the desk area are to be paid for, and that they are NOT free. We use these items to fundraise to pay for our utilities, for the fixtures and hangers, and supplies that we use on an everyday basis. Stealing from us means that makes it more difficult to continue operating without those funds, which means you are stealing from everybody else in the community, and in the surrounding area, who utilize our store. We are posting photos of the following items so that if you see them, please notify us. These are items that were taken without paying for them. If you have them, please either return them or come down and pay a fair donation for those items.
