I love Fall for so many reasons…but one of my favorites has to be the sweaters.

Big, bulky, warm sweaters. Sweatshirts that feel like a hug. The kind of clothes you’ve been waiting months to pull back out of the closet.

Now, living in Florida, we don’t get to start wearing them quite as early as some of you. But I wait for that first cool morning when I can finally grab a sweater or sweatshirt before we head out to walk the dog.

And then there are all the other little things I love about Fall…

🍂A blanket on the couch and a cup of coffee.
🍂Scarves.
🍂Candles.
🍂Pumpkins.
🍂Cooler mornings.
🍂And sending Fall notecards.

There’s just something about putting a little warmth and happiness into the mail this time of year.

There is something about beautiful paper that changes the way you approach a blank page.

I’m working on a new spiral notebook created especially for a watercolor artist...and I keep imagining what it will feel like to use it.

A cover wrapped in this gorgeous patterned paper. A substantial back cover chosen to complement it. And inside, page after page of watercolor paper waiting for whatever you feel like creating that day.

Imagine opening it in your most creative space...with your favorite brushes beside you…choosing a fresh page…mixing your colors…and watching the first wash of paint settle into the paper.

I had this thought today…

What if every family had a stationery drawer?

Just one drawer filled with birthday cards, thank-you notes, blank notecards, pens, markers, stamps, and return-address labels.

I send cards to my grandkids all throughout the year, and when they need more, they’ll call or text me. They go to birthday parties all the time and love using their own special notecards for their friends.

And it made me think about how much easier it is to teach kids to send cards when everything they need is already there.

No searching for a stamp.
No trying to find a card at the last minute.
No making it complicated.

Just grab a card, write a few words, add a stamp, and send it.

I love the idea that something as simple as a stationery drawer could help teach kids to notice people, celebrate them, thank them, and think of them.

That feels like a pretty good habit to grow up with. I wrote more about this idea on The Paper Journal this week.

Apparently, a lot of things are “kinda chic” right now.

We happen to think remembering people, putting pen to paper, buying beautiful stationery you actually use, and sending something that requires a stamp have always been pretty chic.

Some things don't need to become trendy again.

They just need people willing to keep them alive. 💌
