I can't believe it's already been 6 months exactly since we celebrated my Mom's 75th Birthday on Tuesday, December 16th, and I made this extremely gorgeous 8 layered horse 🐴 design for her as a gift!! I posted a few pictures of this at that time along with several other pictures of her 75th birthday celebration, but this design honestly deserves it's own post!! 😍💖🥰
I worked on making this over 7 different weekends as a surprise for my Mom and it was actually at least 2.5 years in the making because I originally saw this gorgeous horse design shortly after we first got our laser cutter/engraver and my goal from that moment on was that I wanted to be able to learn how to use our laser well enough in order to make this and surprise my Mom for her 75th birthday!! 🤗 I didn't realize whenever I was making this that 2026 is actually considered the Year of the Horse, but I decided to make this design for my Mom because she's always been a HUGE horse lover and she actually grew up riding horses!! Well, I was definitely able to pull this off as a surprise and my Mom even cried a little whenever she first saw this horse design!! 🥹
This was definitely a true labor of love since it took 3 different weekends just to cut out all of the different layers of wood using our laser cutter! The easiest part of this entire process was actually staining each layer using several different colors of wood stain to give it more depth and dimension and also to make it look pretty much like a real horse! The final step was gluing each layer together with really heavy duty wood glue. Even though only a little bit of this glue goes a long way and it says that it only requires "a dot per inch", I was literally having to use hundreds of dots of glue per layer, especially on some of the larger bottom layers!! 😱 So like I said this was definitely a true labor of love, but I'm extremely happy with how this finished product turned out and seeing my Mom's reaction to opening this gift on her 75th Birthday made it ALL worth it in the end because her reaction was extremely priceless!!! 🥹😍💖🥰
