The below YouTube link is an interview of Jim and Dave Burleson by Karleen Montgomery, Santa Fe Living moderator and retired history editor of the Santa Fe New Mexican newspaper. These Burleson brothers are two of the many authors published by the Burleson Family Research Group(BFRG). Their work is on an epic western hero of the Bloody Colfax County War in 1870-1885 New Mexico Territory. Sheriff Pete Burleson was that hero. Everyone knows Billy the Kid and Pat Garrett of the Lincoln County War… 19 people died. Discover all about Pete Burleson and Clay Allison in Colfax… 200 people died!
This book like many other Burleson books are available through the BFRG. Get yours today.

There has been much incorrect information on the internet about Isaac Burlison, in fact there were two different Isaac Burlison’s. Find A Grave has pictures of an Isaac Burlison’s marker that is buried in Monroe Co TN. The information, dates and military history is completely wrong. His death was in 1846 as the will plainly shows. His birth was in 1769 according to an sworn affidavit signed by Isaac Burlison in 1837; We at the BFRG are planning on doing a podcast to correct mis-information that we find on the internet. In this podcast we will provide documents to prove what is shown. In the article below John Hoyle Burleson explains. http://www.bfrg.info/bfrg/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Two-Isaac-Burlisons.docx

I was having trouble getting into the BFRG page and again my son Chad came through. But I think I will have to start a new page, but I don't want to lose anyone that is following us for Burleson History. So I thought I would share this post from 2018, I am trying to get back to 2014 and the trip I made to Texas, I can't wait to get back in June for the BFA Reunion.

Had a wonderful birthday dinner with my daughter and her family. A friend of Sheila, found this in the mountains ask her if she wanted it for me, and she gave it to me tonight. It appears to be a road sign, with T. L. Burleson on it. any of my new found Mountain Burleson Cousins know who this might be and maybe where it is located.

The Burleson Family Research Group salutes on this Veterans Day , all those who served in our military. Those sacrifices are truly appreciated. In particular we'll highlight Harry Lee Burleson, a quiet farmer from Hughes, Avery County, North Carolina. The son of Mitchell and Jodie Weatherman Burleson, Harry was born on the 4th of March, 1922.
As WWII intensified, Burleson was inducted into the Army 13 Dec 1942. After training, he was sent immediately to the European theatre. An expert machine gunner, Harry entered battles attacking points identified as immediate threats in a manner his superiors noted as " Above the Call for Duty." Harry cleared out a machine gun nest and captured single handedly, 21 enemy soldiers.
His battle service included action in Naples, Italy at Foggia, Rome at Arno, southern France, Rhineland and central Europe. He was decorated with the Emat Campaign medal, 8 Bronze Stars, a Bronze Star Arrowhead for beach landing, the Distinguished Unit Service Badge, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Purple Heart. His awards were second only to the Congressional Medal of Honor. Burleson was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant on October 3rd, 1945 at the age of 23.
Carrying Harry's family line beyond his father is as follows: Robert Mitchell Burleson > Wilson (Wilt) Burleson > Aaron (Big Aaron) Burleson > Thomas Burleson > Aaron Burleson > Jonathan Burleson > John Burleson and Edward Burleson. Harry Burleson and ALL of our veterans are the threads that make our flag strong and untorn. Thank you all. For additional information be sure and see our newsletter the Recollections in Dec, 2021. Jim and Dave Burleson of NM researched the full history of Harry Lee Burleson and it will be published in December's Recollection. I am posting this to tell all Burleson and Burleson Related that if you missed our Reunion this year you really missed a wonderful time with all the cousins that attended. We had Jim & Dave Burleson, from New Mexico with the release of their new book THE MAN WHO TAMED CIMARRON, THE WILD AND UNRULY LIFE OF PETE BURLESON and Tommy Burleson spoke of his life as great basketball player. We also added John Hoyle Burleson to our Wall of Honor, recognizing his life long search for Burleson Heritage.

Sunday on the way from the BFA Reunion in Charlotte to the BFRG Reunion in Albemarle we stopped at the grave site of Isaac Burleson Sr. It was a good hike into the site and I was asking them if they wanted to go will I had to catch up with them, they were on their way.

Many of you out there have recently seen cousins Paula Denson, JD Burleson, brother Dave and me posing proudly with our “Pete” plaques. They were created in wood with laser by Jeff Hughes, our pal and collaborator. He’s a true artist with wood, whether for caskets, urns, trophies or art pieces. We wanted to give Jeff a shout out for his talent and friendship with us. Please hit his Facebook by clicking on his name within or email him at [email protected]
He’s a good guy and up to your challenges for the unique. That’s him in pic #1.
