Since we are starting to see some M203s trickle in from LMT Defense, it’s a great time to review the 2 ways to get an M203 40mm grenade-launcher.
DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE: This is the “normal” way of getting an M203. The weapon is already registered with ATF as a Destructive Device and either transfers to an FFL/SOT on a Form 3, or from an FFL/SOT to a non-licensee on a tax-paid ATF Form 4. Any FFL/SOT can transfer up to 2 DDs a year and we can facilitate that transfer.
Getting is as a Destructive Device is typically the best option for FFL/SOTs wanting an M203 to play with. However for individuals, it will take longer to eventually transfer.
TITLE 1, NON-NFA RECEIVERS: Contrary to AR15.Com RUMINT, this is not a hacking of the NFA Matrix like the Franklin Armory Reformation has obviously been reforming the NFA since 2018. An M203 is only a DD when it has a 40mm barrel on it. Without the barrel, even though it has “40mm” on the side, it is a firearm receiver, no different than an AR-15 receiver without an upper.
With this, the receiver is purchased without a barrel by the customer and transferred to them via an ATF Form 4473 like any other non-NFA firearm. The user than files an ATF Form 1 to register the receiver as a DD. Once the Form 1 is approved, the customer can add the barrel to the weapon.
Getting it as a Title 1 receiver is easier and typically quicker for an non-FFL/SOT to get their M203. However, the customer will need to engrave the weapon with their information as the manufacturer.
Currently we only have the L2X1 7” “Shorty Forty” launcher as Title 1 receivers. We’re not sure when or if we are going to get more of them or any other M203s, as Ukraine and Israel are both consuming massive quantities of weapons.
We cannot advertise fi****ms, but GunBroker.com has many interesting things.
