Studio24E “Individual Style”, a destination clothing, accessories, Lenox and Kate Spade gift, custom framing and more…boutique. Trish McEvoy makeup artist by appointment.

Michael Kors eyewear shop-in-shop. Established 2002 Studio 24E opened in 2002 and started as an idea to show a unique collection of bespoke pieces of art as well as custom picture framing, and event make-up in an environment that is both comfortable and approachable. Over the years this Maryland-based boutique incorporated the culture and style of the city, with the love of the relaxed atmosphere of small town living into the mix and attitude. Over the past two decades the selection has evolved to become a well-edited assortment of contemporary artist, designers, and independent labels from the US and abroad. Studio 24E is still adding to it's selection and keeping the mix as diverse as the locations they have served.

Okay, important poll: Who’s REALLY ready for trick-or-treating? 🎃👻💀
Me: I bought candy for the kids
Also me: Has already eaten half the candy for the kids 😅
Restocking today and ready for round 2. Bring on the trick-or-treaters, if there’s any candy left, might have to leave the light off! 🤣

At Studio 24E, we do business differently. ✨
Community over profits. Long-term health over short-term wins. 🤍
That’s not just a saying on our wall in Thurmont — it’s how we choose what goes on the shelves, who we partner with, and how we show up. 🏡
We host pop-ups with local makers because we’d rather lift up another small business than compete with one. 🤝💕
We curate for quality — buy less, but better — because we want you to love it for years, not just this season. 🛍️✨
We do Sip & Shops 🍷, seasonal drops 🎃🍂, and little moments in-store because a shop should be a gathering place, not just a transaction. 🫶
And yes, we still have to make a living. Profit matters. Because if we burn out and close, this community loses a place that was built for it. 💛
We’re not trying to be the biggest shop. We’re trying to be the one that’s still here in 10 years — still welcoming, still local, still caring. 🌿
That’s how we’ve been around for 25 years. 🥹✨
Thanks for shopping small with us. You’re not just a customer here. You’re part of the Studio 24E family. 🥰

Today we set a place for the ones who still wag, purr, and nudge us in our dreams.
For Dia de los Mu***os, we remember our pets who crossed the rainbow bridge — the morning greeters, the couch cuddlers, the best listeners we ever had.
They may be gone from our laps, but never from our hearts. Tonight we light a candle, put out their favorite treat, and say their name out loud.
Who are you remembering today? Tell us their name in the comments — let’s fill this feed with love for them. 🕯️🐾

It takes a village to create a small town that everyone can enjoy — not just a select few.
But what happens when the barriers aren't visible? When they're in the form of favoritism for those who play the game, and being ostracized for those who don't?
Where are the metrics to determine what works and what doesn't? Marketing? To whom? Who's actually being reached, and who's being left out?
Participation, accountability, and transparency are not made-up words. They are the foundation of a community that works for all of us.
If you don't ask the hard questions, who will?
We all live here. We all deserve a seat at the table. 🙌

The approach many small towns take when it comes to downtown revitalization usually depends on small business owners taking enormous personal/financial risks while everyone else gets to celebrate the progress. Gives me the ick.

We ask these folks to invest in buildings they don’t own, extend their hours, participate in every event we think of, donate to every fundraiser, and somehow find the money to do it all again next year and then things aren’t working, we ask them to try harder/do more marketing.

But what are other downtown stakeholders doing to help? Here’s some questions I see the best of the best ask themselves consistently:

Local governments: Are you removing unnecessary barriers, improving infrastructure, and creating policies that make it easier to open and sustain a business? And are you holding folks accountable with either incentives or consequences when they aren’t in line?

Property owners: Are you maintaining your buildings, offering reasonable lease terms, and actively working to fill vacancies? Or are you waiting for everyone else’s investments to increase your property value?

Chambers, Main Street organizations, and economic development teams: Are you measuring business retention, vacancy rates, and economic activity, or are you measuring success by how many people attended the last festival? Festivals/gatherings are important, but should be one tool in our toolkit.

Community members: Are you consistently spending money downtown, or are you expecting someone else to keep your favorite businesses open?

Small business owners: Are you delivering great experiences, adapting to customer needs, managing your numbers, and doing your part to build a stronger business?

Shared accountability means EVERYONE has a responsibility, but it also means those responsibilities need to come with actual commitments, measurable outcomes, and consequences when things aren’t working.

If vacancies are a problem, who owns the solution? If weekday foot traffic is nonexistent, who’s working to change that? If businesses keep closing, who’s truly asking why and doing something with the answers?

We cannot keep calling downtown revitalization a community-wide effort while treating small business survival as an individual responsibility.
