‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the shop,
the sawdust is settling, the machines are all stopped.
The projects are finished, the packages shipped,
some with great planning, and some from the hip.
The shop dog chews plywood, right there on the floor,
like some high speed chipper, but worth so much more.
And why does he do it, the man of this castle,
is the shop in the country an escape from life’s hassles?
Away from the Mrs. with her list of honey do’s?
His mind on his hands and off of the booze?
Or maybe the source of his utter elation,
is something from nothing; the art of creation.
Tonight is much different, it’s easy to see,
but where in the world could the woodworker be?
Just then the shop dog, he raises his ears,
is it even possible this thing that he hears?
He runs to the house, where he hears a great laughter,
and one of these voices is that of his master.
Once inside, and to his surprise, he spots the woodworker with a gleam in his eye.
And there’s the Mrs., and their children as well,
smiling and merry in the home that they dwell.
His work is his passion, his skill is an art,
but to this little family, he gives his whole heart.
So just for a few days, the tools will so rest,
for the wood guy to spend Christmas with those he loves best.
Merry Christmas to all.
