Essex County Co-Op

Essex County Co-Op The Essex County Co-Operative is an old-fashioned country store with unique pet, equine, garden & home supplies. Have you seen the Co-Op lately?

It seems that the days of "Mom & Pop" stores, where the customers are known by their names rather than as a number, are disappearing quickly. Smaller stores find it difficult to compete with the prices that the bulk buying mega-stores are able to offer. You'll find the best of both worlds at the Essex County Co-Operative Farming Association. Back in 1917, after loss of profits and rising cost of e

quipment and supplies, local farmers in Essex County banded together to find a solution. The founding farmers formed the association to purchase larger quantities of farm supplies at a lower cost. These bulk purchases enabled them to aid struggling farmers in the area. Today, the Co-Op is an old-fashioned country store that supports the farming community by selling locally grown plants and flowers as well as quality seeds, fertilizers, and animal feeds at the lowest possible prices. The Co-Op carries a wide range of pet foods and supplies plus clothing and gifts. We also fill propane and carry bulk landscaping materials like loam, mulch and compost. The store is open to the public 7 days a week and offers a large variety of items along with the charm and individual attention of a "Mom & Pop" store.

🌾 Hay cutting season is here, and supplies of last year’s hay are starting to run low. If you’re looking to stretch your hay supply or supplement your feeding program, we have a variety of hay replacement options available, including alfalfa cubes, alfalfa pellets, and other forage alternatives that can be incorporated into your horse’s diet.

We also just received a fresh shipment of alfalfa hay, which can be a great way to add additional protein and quality forage to your horse’s feeding program.

Stop by the Essex County Co-Op and let our team help you find the right option for your horse! 🐴🌱

As always, introduce any dietary changes gradually.

❤We are at that time of year when it is no longer safe to take your dog along for errands or any kind of "quick stop" ❤

Until temps are regularly below 70 degrees once again, leave your beloved at home!! They can enjoy the AC, watch some Netflix, and you will avoid any unnecessary tragedy!!

Livestock, pets, wildlife, and people are susceptible to New World Screwworm, especially for those with open wounds.

If you suspect NWS:
* Immediately contact the state veterinarian
* Collect larvae, place them in a test tube containing 70% alcohol, and submit samples to the National Veterinary Services Laboratories.
* Isolate the animal(s) to prevent spread.
* Do not dispose of materials as routine waste.

Visit the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s website for information on treating NWS: https://tinyurl.com/FDAvetsNWS
