If I didn’t find a creative way to give these fabrics a new home, they would sit until they were eventually thrown away or incinerated.

I’ve been working with deadstock for over a decade. I’m still amazed at the amount of leftover fabrics the fashion industry discards daily.

In 2021, I left my job and started selling fabrics wholesale to a handful of clients. Indie fabric stores and small-batch clothing brands.

Even after selling large orders to customers— there were still so many rad fabrics out there waiting to be made into something.

After sharing my mission on TT, I was bombarded with requests. The quickest way I could think of— fabrics by the pound. Sold in different style aesthetics.

Featured here is 1 LB of ‘Grunge’. 2 mystery fabrics that, instead of going to waste, you’re going to use in your next sewing project.

This summer I time traveled into the future and met the next generation of fashion designers and product makers at THE UNINCORPORATED LIFE

Each week they run programs to support budding creative entrepreneurs. Giving them the tools and skill sets to build their creative futures.

These kids only had 25 hours to create a garment from start to finish, come up with a brand concept — making a logo, understanding their customers lifestyle, having a photoshoot and finishing the week with a fashion show and marketing presentation.

I was impressed and I’m excited to see what these kids will make next.

If you know a budding entrepreneur, sign them up for a creative workshop THE UNINCORPORATED LIFE

The future of fashion is bright and bold!
I’m curious to hear if fashion entrepreneurship is in your wheel house or do you just enjoy sewing for fun— share your story in the comments!

Loving this order that went out last week. Do you think the customer paired all three together in one garment or created 3 seperate pieces to mix and match? Drop your guess in the comments— and if this is your order— tag and share what you made! 🧵✨

And dang— doesn’t it feel like we’re being tested in every aspect of life, sometimes? Growing pains all around. Just remember you’re allowed to be messy. You’re allowed to make mistakes. You’re allowed to try again. Keep going! Is your seam ripper your BFF or worst enemy?

A day before my birthday in April, the universe left a present on the street.

We spotted this scruff-muffin wandering loose, down the street from our house. He was covered in dreadlocks and had ‘Precious Moment’ sad eyes. He let me walk right up to him, pick him up, and instantly felt trusted in me. 🥹

We took him home, and underneath his sad eyes and dried skin was a soul that just needed someone to believe in him.

Meet Link (named after 🎬🍿Encino Man). He’s been helping me pick out fabrics for the shop and is not afraid to voice his opinion!
He came off the streets of East LA with a little crusty, punk, grungy vibe. But underneath it all? The sweetest boy you’ll ever meet.

If you’re in LA/OC/IE and ready for a forever friend, this scruff muffin is waiting. 🐾 Reach out to our rescue partners Maeday Rescue to apply for adoption.

Did you know that Canvas got its name from Mota? 🌳 😶‍🌫️
Mota is a term for w**d, cannabis—pot!

The word “canvas” is a combo of old French and Latin cannapaceus (“made of h**p”). Because the earliest sails were made of h**p. H**p is the sister of Mary Jane—the OG.

So while these cotton canvases won’t get you stoned— you might get a little high on dopamine while you're cutting and sewing your next favorite workwear pants, fall jacket, or new book bag for your first semester this year.

Limited edition Robert Kaufman canvas available while they last (almost sold out of 🍊 ‘Lake Olga’). www.sewbysew.com

I’m curious what you’ve made using canvas. Share pattern recommendations 👇 below!
