Well, now you know where at least one of the Reno pylons ended up.

Meet Outer #4.

After the final National Championship Air Races in Reno, this piece of the historic racing course made its way to MotoArt. And tomorrow, it begins another chapter.

We’ve made PlaneTags from aircraft that raced around Reno’s pylons. Now we’re making PlaneTags from the pylon itself.

From the racing line to PlaneTags.

For more than two decades, Reno has been part of the MotoArt story.

It started in the early days, when Dave Hall and his business partner brought aircraft furniture to the Reno Air Races. Years later, we returned with PlaneTags, meeting collectors, spending time with the racing community and making plenty of memories along the way.

Then, after the final races in Reno, we got a call we never expected.

Could MotoArt do something with the pylons themselves?

Our newest story takes you from those early days at Reno to the recovery of the historic pylons, the racers that flew around them, and the challenge of turning Outer #4 into a PlaneTag.

The Reno Story continues...

Back around 2003, the MotoArt Reno experience wasn’t exactly all business.

Dave remembers pushing an old aircraft galley cart through the pits, going from crew to crew handing out free drinks and just having a good time with the racing community.

Those early Reno trips were about more than showing off MotoArt furniture. They were about meeting people, making friends and becoming part of a community we’d keep coming back to for years.

Some of the best MotoArt history apparently happened behind a galley cart. 😄

The Reno Story continues.

In the early days of MotoArt, Reno became much more than a place to show our aircraft furniture. MotoArt became part of the racing community, sponsoring two names that Reno fans will definitely recognize: Voodoo and D**o Red.

Dave looks back at those early years, the racers, and the connections that made Reno such an important part of the MotoArt story.

More than 20 years later, that connection is coming full circle.

Before PlaneTags, there was Reno.

More than 25 years ago, Dave Hall and his former business partner Donovan Fell headed to the Reno Air Races with a dream: turn retired aircraft parts into functional art and give pieces of aviation history a second life.

Those early trips to Reno became an important part of the MotoArt story. Dave and Donovan brought their creations to the races, connected with the aviation community, and even sponsored legendary Unlimited racer Voodoo.

A lot has changed since these photos were taken. MotoArt grew, PlaneTags came along, and over the years we've preserved pieces of some of the very aircraft that once raced around Reno's pylons.

Now, more than two decades later, Reno has found its way back into our shop in a way we never could have imagined back then.

We're digging through the archives this week and sharing some of our favorite memories as we count down to the next chapter.

It all started at Reno.
