is a full-service taiko (Japanese drum) facility in Torrance CA offering a walk-in store, on-site taiko maintenance and repair, and hands-on taiko classes. It is the North American offshoot of Ishikawa-based Japanese drum maker, Asano Taiko, founded in 1609, and now the largest drum maker in Japan. Asano Taiko instruments are used by professional taiko groups throughout the world including the seminal ensemble, Kodo. The new Torrance facility is the first storefront outside Japan dedicated to Asano Taiko instruments and related equipment. The store will also feature instruments by up-and-coming American maker, Kato Taiko. On-site repair will provide north-American taiko groups with professional maintenance and taiko skinning. The facility is also home to Los Angeles Taiko Institute (LATI), a full-time taiko school offering courses to both beginning and experienced players. Taught by professional taiko perfomers, classes are offered every day of the week. A hub for advanced taiko pedagogy, the Institute offers 12-week courses, multi-day intensives, and one-time workshops on a wide range of taiko arts.

Learn Fred’s arrangement of Matsuri Daiko in this 10-week course incorporating movement and choreography from Midare Uchi.

“Matsuri Daiko” is a naname-style piece inspired by Bon-daiko, the music and drumming performed during Obon.

Two-Installment Payment Plan
TOTAL COURSE FEE $300–paid in two installments of $150 each. First payment is due at checkout, and second payment will be automatically charged on November 14, 2026 to the card provided at the time of first payment.

This course is a contiuation of ‘Matsuri Daiko 1’, but welcomes anyone with Naname and Matsuri Daiko experience.

Dive into composition in this 4-week course under the instruction of David Wells.

This course will help students understand methods for composing taiko pieces and learning new pieces quickly and efficiently by improving pattern recognition and learning to recognize important relationships between different parts. Students will also deepen their understanding of arranging and long-term solo development which will help compose pieces, whether full-length or shorter, transitional versions.

$120 for 4 weeks
