A Kuuma BluFlame on a pontoon sauna.

Jeff and Susan picked up one of the first Small Kuuma BluFlame sauna stoves from our plant about three years ago. The original plan was to use it in a future cabin sauna.

But instead of waiting for that larger project, they put it to work in a pretty creative setup:

A pontoon tent sauna.

Jeff shared:

“This is our third tent sauna, but by far has the best heat, steam, clean burn, and aesthetics!”

He also said:

“The BluFlame burns so cleanly that it is impossible to know there is a fire going unless you look at the chimney cap to see the heat rippling from it.”

Radiant heat is part of every wood-fired sauna stove.

But good sauna heat is not about blasting as much direct heat into the room as possible.

The Classic Kuuma Legacy was designed to produce strong, steady wood-fired sauna heat while helping manage the harsh side and rear radiant exposure that can come from a heavy steel stove.

The insulated side and rear shields, built-in air space, firebrick-lined firebox, stone mass, and proper installation all work together.

A stove cannot fix poor sauna design.

But a well-designed stove can make a good sauna design work better.

Wood-fired sauna in Southern California.

This finished customer build features a Small Kuuma BluFlame in an 8x9 hot room with a 7'8" ceiling, cedar interior, elevated bench design, and stone wall heat shield.

After a few burns learning the stove, Jared had it dialed in:

“Man this is incredible.”

He’s seeing 190°F in about 1 hour and 15 minutes when he stokes it up, but says they usually settle in around 165°F at head level. He’s also burning almond wood and getting hours of good heat from just a few pieces.

That’s what we like to hear.

Good sauna isn’t just about chasing the highest number on the thermometer. It’s about steady heat, clean burning, good recovery, and a stove that makes the most out of the wood you put in it.

The Kuuma Vapor-Fire 100 continues to stand out as a premier high-quality forced-air wood furnace option still built in the USA.

As we prepare for the upcoming heating season, we are beginning to work with select approved referral partners and authorized dealers while continuing to sell factory direct from Lamppa Manufacturing.

The current VF100 factory-direct price will be honored on orders placed through Friday, July 31, 2026. Beginning Monday, August 3, 2026, the factory-direct price will be $8,895.

Harsh, uncontrolled radiant heat is the problem.
Stove design matters.

A good wood-fired sauna stove has to do more than make hot metal. It has to heat the room, heat the rocks, support strong löyly, recover after water is thrown, and still burn wood cleanly and efficiently.

The better question is:
How is the stove actually designed to deliver heat and löyly?
