Join us on Thursday, Sept. 3 at 4:30 p.m. in Persson Auditorium for Living Writers: Elaine Castillo. Copies of "Moderation" will be available for purchase and signing.

Named one of “30 of the Planet’s Most Exciting Young People” by the Financial Times, Elaine Castillo was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Her most recent novel, "Moderation", was longlisted for the 2026 Women’s Prize in Fiction and the 2026 Joyce Carol Oates Prize. It was also named one of the Top Ten Books of 2025 by The Atlantic and Slate, and a Best Book of 2025 by The New Yorker, Time Magazine, Kirkus Reviews, and more.

Castillo is also the author of the award-winning debut novel "America Is Not the Heart" and the acclaimed book of essays "How to Read Now". She is the recipient of a 2026 Whiting Award for Fiction, a two-time San Francisco Public Library Laureate, and a Berkeley Public Library Laureate. In the tradition of diasporic mothers everywhere, she works primarily so her rescued German shepherd, Vincent, can live a better life.

Join us on Saturday, September 12, 2026 as we celebrate Roald Dahl Day in Hamilton, NY!

Roald Dahl Day is an annual global celebration of Roald Dahl’s marvelous stories, characters and worlds. Roald Dahl Day is celebrated every year on his birthday, the 13th of September, and people all over the world come together to celebrate the magical worlds he brought to life.

There will be a variety of activities for all ages at different times and locations throughout the village. Come to just one, or come to them all! Admission to the day’s programs and activities is free.

Head over to the Palace Theater for a LIVE sing-a-long with Jenni Larchar of Jenni’s Music Studio! Kids of all ages are welcome to sing and dance along.

Stop in at the Colgate Bookstore for crafts and treats!

12:30 p.m. — Hamilton Movie Theater [7 Lebanon Street]
Next, it’s time for lunch and a movie! Enjoy FREE pizza from Oliveri’s Pizzeria while watching the FREE showing of "Wonka" (2023, PG) sponsored by the Colgate Bookstore.
