Today is dedicated to the victims of 9/11, the first responders, military and Veterans who ran towards danger & sacrificed all for us.

I was in Idaho. I was at home getting ready for work with the news on in the background. I heard the report of the first plane. I desperately tried calling my husband, at the time, who was a firefighter. The second plane hit. I drove to work and carried a TV into the break room. I then called all my employees and directed them to call every client and make face to face contact with everyone. I owned a mental health agency and all of our clients had severe and persistent mental illness. A high percentage had spent decades in institutions and had no family. We rounded daily for weeks reassuring our clients they were safe.

7 years later I was hired at the VA where I worked for 17 years. I spent 12 of those years working with Post 9/11 Veterans.

I'm pretty sure every friend group needs at least one of the second kind.
