Heavy metals in chocolate
Recently there was a heavily publicized report about cadmium and lead in chocolate. The real problem is that our food system is broken (using death as our ally) and all our products, water, air, soils are contaminated with not only heavy metals, but biocides (all the cides, i.e. insecticide, herbicide, etc.), pollutants, toxic waste, among others. However, the answer is simple and has always been at our disposal, if we mimick nature in our food production, several of these issues will be solved...
Regenerative agriculture practices can potentially help to reduce heavy metal contamination in not only chocolate but in other products (actually cereals, and products such as bread and pasta are the highest contributors to heavy metal daily intake). Here are few ways THRIVU believes we can help:
