Happy birthday to one of our favorite authors. From the Moomins to The Summer Book everything Tove Jansson wrote was magical.

On this day in 1989, Tove Jansson celebrated her 75th birthday on the island of Pellinge in the Finnish archipelago. For decades, this was her preferred lifestyle every summer: no electricity, no plumbing, just the sea, the rock, and the work.

The Moomins may have made her famous, but it was places like this that made her Tove. In Finland, August 9th is a recommended flag day, celebrating Tove Jansson and Finnish art.
