Every once in a while, someone asks me, “What started the comic book craze for you?”
This issue.
Not just Elfquest. This particular issue.
The art. The dialogue. The story. Everything about it connected with me in a way that was different. It wasn’t just something I read. It meant something to me.
And after this issue, everything changed.
It opened the door to a world of comics, art, stories, imagination, collecting, friendships and eventually a community that has become such a huge part of my life.
And there are people who were there at the beginning. People who were there when this was all just starting, before there was a store, before there was a community, before any of us could have known where it would lead.
I don’t need to name you.
You know who you are.
Thank you for being there at the beginning. Thank you for believing in me, encouraging me, sharing this crazy passion with me, and helping shape everything that came after.
When I look at this issue, I don’t just see a comic book.
I see where it all began. ❤️
